Pours an opaque mahogany color with a nice tan head. Lots of malt in the nose. Sweet malt taste, enough hops to keep it from being too sweet. You can almost chew this beer. I had it on the coldest night of the year [so far]and it made a nice winter warmer.

Courtesy of DYCSoccer17. Purple-tinged ruby brown. Sparse, very fine lacing with excellent legs. Nutty, chocolatey aroma with hints of anise and whole wheat bread. Sweet, luscious flavor with chocolate and coffee notes. Substantial, somewhat smoky bitterness finishes it off. The finish is more unexciting and flatter than one would have expected from what preceded it.

Rich color with a very caramel nose. There are also hints of chocolate and metal in the tates. A good dopplebock, but not a great one. 636315 ---re-rate--- 6/25/09 Aroma is sweet caramel and toast. Taste is sweet, a bit slick and fruity. Mouthfeel is full and viscous without cloying. Nice

Dark red, near black colored. Little beige head. Aroma has licorice, roastiness, sweet caramel and mild hops. Medium to full bodied. Licorice, chocolate, good hops and roastiness in flavor. Aftertaste lasts with conveniently sweet licorice and some berries.

One of the best Dopelbock’s I’ve sampled to date. Outstanding color and palate plus it is very smooth. Proud malts and delicious sweet caramel notes touching just a little too much. Well done.

Pours a deep cola brown, a little bit reddish when held to the light, with half an inch or more of tan foam. Minimal head retention and lacing. Strong and sweet aroma - caramel malt, maplenut, some chocolate, and an earthy fruitiness. Bold flavor up front, very malty and both sweet and dry. Chocolate, brown sugar, and earthy maple dominate, with some subtle dried fruit in there as well. Finishes less sweet than the initial flavor, and leaves an oaky, nutty dry aftertaste. Now there’s sweet caramel and cheap chocolate soda in the aftertaste. Complex and flavorful. Not quite medium body, carbonation on the light side. With all those flavors going on, I find myself just a little bit disappointed that the flavor quits a bit early.
