The very nice aroma has roast caramel malt and plum. Loads of sweet caramel malts give it a nice full body and some dark fruit notes lend some complexity to the taste. There’s a hint of mild hops bitterness in the finish that with the roast flavors put me in mind of coffee just a little bit. I definitely enjoyed this beer. They’ve really nailed the style. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA

A sweet dark bread, raisin taste with a very weak mouthfeel, watery. Average Dobblebock. Ibrew2or3 (2724), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

Aroma is full with sweet molasses, caramel, sweet dark fruit and vanilla. Great malt flavor which is much like the aroma. There is sweet molasses and caramel as well as brown sugar, dates, a light nuttiness backed up with a hint of hops biting around the edges. I’m left with a somewhat sweet malty aftertaste. jhumphries69 (722), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 10, 2006 Beer pours a dark brown with hints of orange gleaming through. The head is thick and off-white, but disappears quickly. The aroma is malt, malt, malt, malt, malt. It smells like malt extract (which you’ve smelled if you’ve ever homebrewed). There is some caramel, candied dates, and hints of pecans - but mostly sweet, cakey malts. The flavor is not as one-dimensional - it starts off sweet and malty but with a presence of hop bitterness and a very subtle hop flavor. There is also a toasted bread flavor creeping in around the middle. The overall flavor evokes bready desserts (like baklava - even down to the hints of honey and nuts) and fruit (dates, figs), with strong caramel flavors, too. The finish is sweet, but gently hoppy with an after-taste that leans much more towards bitter hops than malts. The mouthfeel is quite heavy - and the beer hits the stomach like a rock (very filling). Not bad, and certainly characteristic of the style, but not the best doppelbock I’ve had. Arayaga2 (950), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Deep brown garnet tinted colour with a beautiful light brown head. Beautiful malty aroma, toast and lightly burnt sugar over a delicious cherry fruitiness. Toasted malt and a lightly spicy hoppiness. Flavour is very similar to the aroma with deep sweet decocted complexity. Toasted nuts, brown sugar, molasses and a soft herbal flavour. ehhdayton (1113), USA
