scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 5, 2006 Deep rusty brown, thick lightly tanned head (with great lacing). Rich nose of fig, raisin, and caramel bread, with underlying vinous-like cherry waves. Malty up front with more fig, raisin, cherry bread and soft booze notes. Ends with a light German hop bitterness to keep the malt in check. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, malty finish. Glad I found this one out of the blue. A very nice doppel.... Quinten (955), zaandam, Netherlands Sep 4, 2006 Dark almost black color, thick brown color’t head,..fully dunkel doppelbock,... with: caramel, coffee, resin, licorice,, a very plesant one. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Sep 3, 2006 Not my favorite dopplebock, but pretty good. Very rich flavor. Quite smooth for the ABV. I would recommend it. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Sep 2, 2006 Bottle. Clear brown beer with a nice head. Sweet malty aroma. Sweet caramel malt flavor. Well balanced and tasty. Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 2, 2006 This is a magnificent and complex brew.
Appearance: Pours a mahogany brown with reddish hues. Light tan head.
Smell: I instantly thought of chocolate and caramel, but quickly aromas of brown sugar, molasses, plumbs, rum raisins and soggy rum bread, toffee, and more filled the nose.
Taste: Big malts create a perfect foundation for dozens of additional flavors. Dark caramel, rum, dark fruits (raisins and plumbs dates), loads of cookie dough and bready flavors; subtle suggestion of toffee and nuts and a hint of German Hops. The dominate sweet character is offset by a gentle bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: This beer is big and silky smooth. The velvety malt is oily slick and slides through the palate like a heavenly creamy silk.
Drinkability: Who could make a Double Bock so drinkable? Never doubt Weihenstephaner. This beer is terrific and goes down with dangerous ease.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers! robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Aug 25, 2006 Very pleasantly malty aroma of the typical bock. Dark brown color. Tan head which disappated quickly. Not an overly cloying flavor that some bocks have. Bock aftertaste stays on the tongue for several minutes after drinking. I’d buy it again! jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Aug 21, 2006 Pours deep red-brown with a small off-white head. Great toffee and caramel aroma with hints of plum, nuts, and chocolate. The flavor is more sweet malts with some nuttiness and a lightly lactic finish. Incredibly smooth for a big beer.
