yayforbeer (641), Orange Park, Florida, USA Aug 15, 2006 500ml bottle, served in a Celebrator glass. Clear brown beer with a nice light tan head. Sweet malty aroma. Sweet caramel malt flavor with a tingly tartness on the tongue. Well balanced and tasty. Enjoyable and satisfyingly excellent dopplebock. On a par with Salvator and Optimator, but falls short of Celebrator. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 15, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-brown with a large lasting creamy tan head. Very nice aroma of dark malt, dark fruit, yeast, caramel, nuts and chocolate. Delicious creamy flavour of dark malt, dark fruit, chocolate, roasted nuts, hops and alcohol. Medium bodied. Wow, this was one of the best Doppelbocks I’ve ever had. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Aug 10, 2006 Nice aroma of dark roasted grains and malt, wheat, yeast, some caramel-like sweetness, dried fruits (raisins, dates, plums). Generous foamy head, nice dark brownish reddish color. Nice rich flavors of sweet malt, wheat, yeast, dried fruits, with sweet caramel and toffee undertones. Crisp and refreshing despite the heaviness of this beer. Awesome. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver. Pours deep coppery rubish with 2-finger khaki head. Great look. The aroma is of fermenting figs, brown sugar, hops, caramel malt. The taste is caramel malty, with notes of brown sugar, cinnamon, hops, and slight rauch. Very crisp and clean, but the complexity falls off as it warms. This went great with buttered corn-on-the-cob smothered in spray butter and Old Bay! harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Aug 7, 2006 This rocks! Dangerously delicious. Bittersweet fruity nose, with some very nice caramel malt, mixed over the top of delicious black, almost has a chai taste to it, with some liquid vitamin mineral dryness. Sticky, but not syrupy, with a sweet mouthfeel but still remains very clean and is never heavy. fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA Jul 31, 2006 Pours a burnt sienna with a cloudy body that has a thick tan head. The nose is sweet with a sour, funky, nutty, aroma....tough to make out other flavors. The taste is fantasic, caramel malt, herbal tea, tart bitterness. The sweetness brings forth so many flavors......dark fruits, raisins, plum, very creamy, roasted nuts. This is a very tasty doppelbock! wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2006 Nearly opaque dark brown with reddish hues and a full off white head. Aroma of plums and sweet malts. Complex prunes and raisins with maple syrup flavor; notes of dark chocolate and sweet red wine also come through. Very interesting and well balanced, flavorful. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2006 Bottle (500ml). In my Erdinger Weiss glass. Poured deep clear mahogany with a huge foamy-creamy lasting tan head. Sweet roasty nutty/chocolate caramel malt and bready yeast aroma, some herbal hops and alcohol bitterness in background - very rich and clean. The taste is a little burnt - as the aroma, only moreso, and burnt - nice. Mouthfeel is a little watery, but still this is syrupy, not much carbonation considering that impressive head, and leaves a sticky bitter, chocolate and fruit aftertaste - solid doppel.
