duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England May 24, 2006 Bottle. Quite sticky and sweet on the palate, too much so. Soy sauce and sweet caramel/toffee characters and not a lot else. Admittedly this is not my favourite style, but i have been pleasantly surprised in the past (Andechser!!). Somehow i was expecting more, from a brewery i really like. rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada May 11, 2006 Dark brown ruby color, with some reddish highlights, with a frothy tan-colored head, sweet caramelized malt, toffeeish nose, toasted malt, with a dried figs fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a sweet caramelized malt character, with some dark dried fruits fruitiness notes, hint of dark chocolate and treacle accent, with a toffeeish and faint coffeeish textures, leading towards a sweet warming malty, fruity and raisiny finish. gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA May 7, 2006 Nice brown color. Not my favorite style of beer but not bad. Malty with carmel syrup taste but somehow not sweet. Does go good with salmon. Dark but not overpowering. entertheiceman (242), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 6, 2006 Ruddy brown pour with a dark red hue around the edges of the glass. Thick head that is very similiar in appearance to a latte or cappucino. Awesome aroma of candied pecans like the ones my mom makes around Christmas. Medium body and an unfortunately thin watery palate. Flavor is like an overly malty nut borwn ale with a bitter and smoky finish that lasts for a while. If this were fuller bodied it would be hard to beat. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA May 5, 2006 Clear dark brown port under a collapsing medium light brown frothy head. Aromas pf dark caramel, smoky malt, some earthy notes, and a touch of floral hops. Medium/full bod, and a little sticky and resinous. Huge malt flavors of sweet caramel, roasted nuts, and molasses. Still, there is a nice balancing bitterness, although it still finishes a little sweet. A very good doppelback in the classic Bavarian style. It’s no Celebrator, but certainly holds its own. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Apr 14, 2006 16.9oz - Aroma is toasty malts, carmel and toffee with a touch of hops. Pours dark brow with medium head and good lacing. Flavor is sweet and toasty carmel, toffee, and a little nutty. Palate is sticky and sweet. Nice. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 9, 2006 Pours a medium brown color. Flavor is wonderful. It is malty and has a creamy finish. Aroma is also malty. This is a great brew and one of my favorites. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 1, 2006 I only had this about 4 hours ago and I’m finding it hard to remember anything significant about it. Looks like dirty water. Has a nutty and sweet aroma. Flavor kind of reminds me of a Rochefort for some reason, nutty and dirt like. Not chocolatey like a lot of dopplebocks. So-so.
