TheBeerNinja (137), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 2, 2006 Pours a ruby brownish with a tan head. Nose is sweet and malty with a faint woody note. Flavor is crisp and sweet, with a nice bitter finish. A little simple, but it is German what else can you do with water malted barley and yeast. thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Feb 25, 2006 Pours a dark ruby/red. Nice persistent head of about 1/4 inch. Sweet, malty caramel notes. Nice roasted caramel flavor with creamy soft palate. jcr (1134), Jasper, Indiana, USA Feb 19, 2006 Inviting dark brown pour with nice tan, if somewhat limited, head. Strong aroma of sweet malts - ripe plums, raisins - and grain. The flavor is largely on the sweet side though there is some hop bitterness in the finish. The sweet malts taste of toffee and brown sugar. Medium body. Solid and drinkable doppel. tomciccateri (496), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Feb 16, 2006 Pouring a dense dark brown, the big malty aroma first strikes the senses, followed by the dry, dark malt flavors of this medium-bodied brew. A berry-like character is present as is a hint of chocolate. Very drinkable. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Feb 10, 2006 Updated: Jun 18, 2008Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, dark orange lager with a large, frothy, off-white head. Great retention. The aroma is doughy and fruity. It smells of whole-grain bread, honey and a Red Eye made with lots of tomato juice and just about any premium, pale lager. For whatever reason, this totally works for me. The malty, breadsy flavor is full of dough and golden raisins. Full-bodied and silky with mild carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet, but mostly dry. World class effort! elektrogeist (158), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Feb 9, 2006 Never disappointment from Weihenstephaner.. this one is a good example of what a dopplebock should be. I’m not the biggest fan of the style, especially the aroma, but this particular one had a pleasing smell. Its a deep clear red which looks very nice held up to the light, weak head but very powerful aroma. The flavor is very roasted chocolate like, which is good but better if I were in the mood for it. The roasted malt could be maybe a tad less aggressive, but other than that I really love it. gilby (23), Stuttgart, Germany Feb 4, 2006 Updated: Oct 30, 2006This dopplebock is probably has most well rounded flavor I have ever had. The first time I had it I was literally amazed by the taste, it is in fact a religious experience just to be able to buy this brew. Nice and heavy, It is sweet to the palate, and such a flavorful chocolate malty aftertaste. I instantly added this to my favorite all time wall of fame. outstanding, period. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA Feb 2, 2006 Updated: Aug 6, 2006[bottle] Sweet, almost fruity aroma. Flavor is kind of sweet as well. Nutty malts. Very sweet aftertaste.
