Weihenstephaner Korbinian

This dopplebock is probably has most well rounded flavor I have ever had. The first time I had it I was literally amazed by the taste, it is in fact a religious experience just to be able to buy this brew. Nice and heavy, It is sweet to the palate, and such a flavorful chocolate malty aftertaste. I instantly added this to my favorite all time wall of fame. outstanding, period.

[bottle] Sweet, almost fruity aroma. Flavor is kind of sweet as well. Nutty malts. Very sweet aftertaste.

Pours a dark brownish mahogany color w/ a tall, relentless, creamy froth that sits there forever. Reduces to a full canopy of thick lace. Intense aromas of honey, dark fruits, roasted coffee bean and cocoa. Nice! Medium nectar w/ very mellow effers that create a nice creamy texture. Flavors are fresh and complex in nature w/ a very defined overlying roasted honey character. Molases, honey, plum, red apple, raisins, cocoa, roasted coffee bean, spiced cakebread, and slightly earthy. Wow! This brew rocks. The creamy texture really sets this one apart from the usual suspects. The finish has a perfect bittering component consting of chocolate roasted coffee beans and a lasting presence of stewed dark fruits and buttery cocoa. Goes good w/ spicey chili con carne. Highly recommended.

(bottle) Clear and dark mahogany colour with a medium sized beige foamy head. Moderately sweet aroma of dark and roasted malts, caramel, toffee and cacao, also shy hints of hops. Sweet flavour, medium to full body, smooth carbonation. Sweet roast-malty taste with caramel and dark chocolate, sweet malty and warming finish with a shy but present bitterness. Not too complex and quite sweet, but really quaffable.

Really, really nice beer. A plethora of rounded malt flavors--raisins, figs, honey buns, biscuits, molasses, maple, toast, honeysuckle, caramel, peanuts--they are getting some beautiful things out of whatever malts they’re using. Mouthfeel heavy, round, and soft without being cloying or too stick. I aged this bottle for well over a year and did not notice any undue alcohol notes as others have.

Outstanding craft here. Very, very enjoyable. The pour into my goblet had an eruptive head that left incredible lacing. The aroma was nice and malty. Appearance was a mahogany brown with a tan head. Very minimal hop in the flavor, strong in the malt department but not TOO malty. A very filling beverage to say the least! Very high marks for this one."

Labeled a dunkels starkbier or "dark strong beer", this beer is a dopplebock, or double bock, by style. Dopplebocks are strong, warming, malty beers that were brewed by monks to sustain them during fasting. They have often been called "liquid bread" for their intense malt character. This beer quite possibly, could be the most impressive example of dopple bock ever brewed. It clearly was my favorite until I tried Andeches Dopplebock Dunkel on a trip to Germany last year. And while I did indeed find a dopple bock that I could honestly say is "better" than Korbinian, it is still one of the most impressive dopplebock biers being brewed today. I am stunned each and every time I drink this beer. If anyone ever had any questions as to what malt tastes like, one sip of beer will answer all those questions. Korbinian Dunkles Starbier pours to a beautiful, bright, deep chestnut color with thick and creamy tan head, and a moderate to soft amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is striking. Deep, deep sweet malty, toasty, and nutty aromas marry with slow and subtle waves of alcohol strength. Just smelling this beer is a better experience than drinking many beers. The palate is full and lush on the tongue with a slick and syrupy body. The malt flavors in this beer are amazingly complex, comforting, and delicious. Flavors of sweet malt, toast, nuts, slight hints of chocolate, and vanilla coat the tongue and fill the mouth. Korbinian finishes with more stunning complex malt flavors up front, then ends with a slightly cloying, warming finish that lingers. This beer is indeed strong, coming in at about 7.4% abv. I’m floored. Last night it was my pleasure to slowly sip and savor a half liter bottle of this Teutonic nectar. And at $2.85 a half liter, it is a steal. I would not dare match this beer with food. Korbinian makes the perfect after dinner drink, and is the perfect beer to slowly work on and enjoy as you relax reading the paper or a good book.

Pour is a nice dark red with a tan head. Aroma is toasted malts,fruits and hops. Flavor is very toasty and malty with hints of caramel. A very tasty rep of the style but Celebrator is still king.
