mkel07 (494), Brisbane, Australia Jul 5, 2009 500ml bottle. Rich dark brown with a pillowy tan head that is well compacted. Looks robust and has a deep rich aroma that hits you as soon as you pour it. Aroma of dates, raisans and caramel and a strong flavour and aftertaste. Well rounded and other good offering from Weihenstaphaner. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jul 5, 2009 Hazy brown in color with a small off white head. Aroma of chocolate/caramel, some bread/yeast, some biscuity munich malt. Taste has a good deal of munich, chocolate, and some caramel malt. Smooth, malty, and somewhat rich, a medium full body with a hint of some hop bitterness in the finish. very good. gabbama (115), Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2009 Nice dark brown with an off white head. Dark roasted malt aroma with floral notes a bit of dark fruit. Sweet complex flavor with a long malty finish. One of my favorite doppelbocks. BeerGuyTWMore (48), USA Jun 28, 2009 One of my favs...Pours a dark brown, with thick tawny head that laces. Aromas of roasted malt, dark fruit, and molasses. Flavors range from roasted malt, raisin, chocolate, maple, little caramel, and light bitter hop finish which last along with the choco/malt. Very complex, wish it had more body (as it is medium) and maybe more bitterness on the finish. Otherwise one of the best in the style!! Perfect with a cigar, might I suggest Punch EMS, or if you have the means Patel Vintage 1990(red ring(not torpedo)) Allen (1285), Switzerland Jun 27, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Courtesy of joss. It pours a mahogany beer with a nicely lasting beige head. Malt accentuated nose with hints of rasins, mothballs and candy sugar. Sweet. Malty vinous taste which is also fruity (apple) with hints of mothballs. Low bitterness. Pumpernickel sneaking in before a mediocre finish. Thanks a lot joss! Dacrza (245), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Jun 25, 2009 Pours a velvet black smooth body with a thick, reasonably stiff off-white head--imposing in a Schneider glass...floral, malty balance--a bit of berry dances with a soft hops bouquet... complex, definite presence of banana, clove and caramel... soft, thin, warm mouthfeel; light for a doppelbock, almost with a weizen lift--the aftertaste is appropriately warming...smooth and deceptively soft--a pleasure to taste with a balance of malty solidness and and wheat in the teeth...a perfect treat for an unseasonably humid evening in May, refreshingly versatilefor spring, summer or fall... sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 25, 2009 Tasted 6/24/09. 500ml bottle. Filtered with a deep very dark ruby amber hue. Clinging khaki head. Sweet nose with hints of cookies and caramel. Cinnamon toast and maple syrup. Diverse, yet faint aromatic emanations.. Medium to full bodied with a nice sticky plummy flavor. Lotta dark fruit and a creamy texture. Roasty and toasty, with that sticky sweetbreads flavor. Alas, a bit o the butterscotch. Age? Beefy caramel note. Touch cocoa and fudge. This is everything I’ve come to expect from this style. Malt dominant with a minuscule amount of hops. This is a good beer. And really, who doesn’t like a good Doppelbock? rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 23, 2009 Pours a translucent but very deep brown with a small off white head. Aroma is caramel, malts, rasins and a touch of metal. Flavor is chocolate, rasins, metal, caramel, fruits, esthers, a tad metallic and a touch of smoky ash. Sweet and slightly syrupy mouthfeel with a metallic tinge in the finish but highly drinkable and balanced.
