| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Very dark amber and slightly hazy. Nice head, but it quickly pops away. Cakey-yeasty nose. Soft and very creamy texture -- nice! Malts were fairly sweet, a little roasty, woodsy, damp and earthy. Hops were a little fruity (dried apricots), herbal, and grassy, with a healthy amount of bitterness that easily kept up with the big malts. Good beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2005 Deep amber-rust brown colour. Moderate beige head. Delicious roasted malt nose with a little chocolate. Very balanced palate, not too sweet, making it enjoyable to the end. Could drink this all night! A terrific Father’s Day gift and a fine beer to start my rating history! Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2006 0.5L bottle. Brown color with thin tan head. Aroma is full with sweet molasses, caramel, sweet dark fruit and vanilla. Great malt flavor which is much like the aroma. There is sweet molasses and caramel as well as brown sugar, dates, a light nuttiness backed up with a hint of hops biting around the edges. I’m left with a somewhat sweet malty aftertaste. riversideAK (2745), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruits. Pours brown with a fine head. Has a nice malts profile with chocolate, dark fruits, and some toast. Sweet and malty, finishes with a hint of alcohol. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2006 This rocks! Dangerously delicious. Bittersweet fruity nose, with some very nice caramel malt, mixed over the top of delicious black, almost has a chai taste to it, with some liquid vitamin mineral dryness. Sticky, but not syrupy, with a sweet mouthfeel but still remains very clean and is never heavy. Suttree (2735), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Murky brown, thin tan head. Fruity (plum and raisin) aroma, with a dark bread note. Maybe a hint of rum, too. Flavor is pumpernickle bread and a hint of raisin, with some rye, too. A bit of alcohol heat in the finish. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2005 I really loved the label--very attractive. Fruity, malty aroma; good frothing head as you swirl the cloudy, nut-brown body. Caramel flavor spectrum, but a bit thin and, I thought, weak in the finish. Doesn’t stand up against the top-flight doppelbocks.
