Murky brown, thin tan head. Fruity (plum and raisin) aroma, with a dark bread note. Maybe a hint of rum, too. Flavor is pumpernickle bread and a hint of raisin, with some rye, too. A bit of alcohol heat in the finish.

I really loved the label--very attractive. Fruity, malty aroma; good frothing head as you swirl the cloudy, nut-brown body. Caramel flavor spectrum, but a bit thin and, I thought, weak in the finish. Doesn’t stand up against the top-flight doppelbocks.

Bottle; Nose of malty grain with a little molasses and and faint hop note; Clear brown with a medium beige head; flavor of molasses, caramel, brown sugar, and raisins. A super malty dopplebock!

Nice aroma with brown sugar/molasses/caramel, raisins, toasted malt, and hops. The appearance is dark red brown with a medium head. The flavor has some figs and is sweet, nutty, toasted, malty, mildly bitter, and coffee like with a woody finish. The palate is just a little to thin but overall it’s a quality beer.

Dark mahogany beer, with a soapy off-white head - lovely, complex nose of sweet malts, caramel, chocolate, rum-soaked raisins, plum, a slightly roasty, almost smoky character - nice and creamy in the mouth - starts out with some roasted malt character, and loads of toffee - a hint of treacle-ish sweetness is tempered well by the roasty character - strong raisin and fig flavor, brown sugar, buttered toast - chocolate, coffee, very light smoke - ends with a mild acidity that cleanses the sweetness from the palate - this is extremely well made.

50 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Reddish dark brown colour with a little head. Very weak aroma with hints of caramel, sweetness and maltness. Sweet flavour of chocolate and malt very clean and ends up little alcoholic.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark brown/ruby colour with firm beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, ryvita, dark rye bread, slightly spicy and roasted notes, ending with hints of burnt sugar. Malty taste with notes of dark rye bread, ryvita, chocolate, coffee and wild berries. Some sweetness throughout but actually drier than expected. Full bodied, rounded and smooth mouthfeel. Absolutely brilliant balance. In short, an awesome and beautiful brew.

Bottle: Pours a deep brownish ruby with a creamy tan head. The aroma is roasted, with rich malt character. Notes of mild cocoa, maple, raisins, as well as earthy suggestions (soil-like) to accompany the sweeter side. Creamy and silky mouthfeel. Mildly carbonated. Chewy malt flavors are there, yet it remains nice and soft. Sweet and roasted flavor balance nicely. Some mild maple notes, cocoa, dark German malt heartiness, followed by a mild roasted finish. Smooth and very traditionally true to style.
