Nice dark red color with a medium frothy head on top. Band aid, light chocolate and nutmeg nose. Smooth and silky texture. A bit alcohol, loads of malt, cinnemon and chocolate in the taste. Caramely. Just a nice tiny bit roasted in the finish. What a goodie! Thanks so much Saarlander for this treasure!

500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, numbered 7068. Pours a dark brown with a medium head. Heavy dark fruits in the aroma with some wheat and soy. Taste is dark fruits, soy and rye bread. Full bodied.

Foamer! Luckily I didn’t spill a drop. Dark brown, not the black I was expecting. Nice small-bubbled off-white head. Aroma is fruit past it’s prime. Flavor is light caramelly malts, no real hop presence but some odd funky spice. A bit sweet and syrupy. Mouthfeel is lively with constant steaming bubbles.

yep, this is one malty thick brew - and the alcohol warmed my body and spirit. Lighter cola color, medium fizzy head. a little bit tangy, toffee/caramel, raisin, tiny bit of alcohol flavors. This was very good, but a bit overwhelming in the malt department.

Lot 5484. Poured a burgundy brown color with a generous head that lasted quite nicely and provided good lacing. This one had a vinous and dark fruit type chocolate aroma. The flavor was similar with figs, caramel, and raisins featured over top of some chocolate and licorice that came out in the later flavors. A little bit of the maibock doughiness in there. The finish contained some hops, slightly grassy after aftertaste. Mouthfeel was moderate for a bock, but a little light to average for a doppelbock. An enjoyable 800th review.

Bottle: Poured a deep Burgundy color bock with large dirty brown color head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of banana ester with some dry fruits notes. Taste is also dominated by some dark fruit taste with ester of banana and some sweet malt. Body is about average with some creamy notes and good carbonation with no distinguishable alcohol. Well done but it would have been even better to get a fresher bottle.

500ml, pours a dense brown with tan head. nose is very nutty covered in maple syrup. flavor is earthy, caramelly, brown sugar, toasted nuts, vanilla, sweet but not cloying and finishes pretty dry and sorta salty. carbonation and mouthfeel are ideal. i did enjoy this but i’m beginning to think americans are making better doppelbocks than the germans ever have.
