The are hints of metal in the aroma as well. Aroma is not as persistent as I’d like it to be. Transparent ruby-mahogany color with an off-white/light tan head. Mmmm...roasty bitter chocolate start with significant coffee flavors following. Middle is slightly sweet. This is just a great malt-bomb of a doppelbock. Awesome stuff. willblake (2190), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Anyway, the pour is dark, beer-bottle brown with ample tan head and not much lacing. Aromas are less sweet than many doppels, caramel, brown sugar, peppery hints, dark pretzel. Flavors follow suit with some bananas foster appearing at the finish before a lightly charred note and salt/pepper grip takes hold of the aftertaste. It’s nicely done if not enchanting. Alcohol is not at all noticable, body is a medium-full, but should be meatier. blutt59 (2172), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Dark brown-mahogany body with a big, foamy beige head. Interesting warm caramel, roasted marshmallow, and dark bread crust aromas. Chocolate, caramel, and mild dark fruit flavors with medium high malty sweetness. Initial fizziness subsides and leaves a smooth, creamy texture. A good, tasty doppelbock from a proven brewery. EithCubes (2171), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 20, 2006 Bottle. Opaque ruby-rosewood pour with a short yellow-tan head. Sweet fruity aroma, grape, malty, and a touch of alcohol. Typical bock taste with a little more dark malt than expected. Full-bodied and velvety smooth; not really creamy or oily, but slightly warming. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Fruity (grape, mostly) aftertaste. Really pleasant and mild - I’d say this is a very refined Doppelbock which seduces you with subtle flavor rather than slamming you with it. BDR (2169), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Nutty and malty with a pleasant aroma upon opening.Very easy to drink considering its fairly high strength. Nice. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2005 Caramel and sweet malt aroma. A deep russet color with a thin compressed head. Molasses come out right away in the fore then come raisin, malt and alcohol. There is warming quality from the alcohol which makes you feel as if you have dipped your tongue into a cherry infused Navy rum. Very enjoyable drink marred only by a slightly too aggressive alcohol flavor.
