Rich nose of fig, raisin, and caramel bread, with underlying vinous-like cherry waves. Malty up front with more fig, raisin, cherry bread and soft booze notes. Ends with a light German hop bitterness to keep the malt in check. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, malty finish. Glad I found this one out of the blue. A very nice doppel.... stouby (1954), Holbaek, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Gorgeous chestnust color though with a faded head. Pleasantly intense malt ball aroma and dusted malt, exquisitely well-rounded. Med-um-body that is slightly watery for a doppelbock, but posses a flavorful malty component, again of malt balls and some bitter-sourness on the finish. A solid example of the style. Perhaps some smoked Rauch malt is used as well. travita (1941), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2008 Clear and dark brown in color with an ok tan colored head. Sweet, maple syrup, and nutty malty smell. Sticky, sweet, nutty, malty in the taste. Just allright I hoped there was more. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

One of my favorite doppelbocks, even better than Celebrator in my opinion. Poured a deep reddish brown. Smelled malty, chocolatey and peppery. Tasted slightly burnt; full-bodied. Traces of chestnuts or pecans and dark chocolate help to make this beer rich. There’s a pumpernickel aspect to this doppelbock as well. Hits your palate and kind of spins around your mouth. Each sip brings a richer and more well-rounded taste. Now I’m hooked. Heavy lacing and nice 1/4" off-white head that stayed floating on top, even when the beer was about half way through. Warming, smooth. I should have bought another one of these. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
