One of my favorite doppelbocks, even better than Celebrator in my opinion. Poured a deep reddish brown. Smelled malty, chocolatey and peppery. Tasted slightly burnt; full-bodied. Traces of chestnuts or pecans and dark chocolate help to make this beer rich. There’s a pumpernickel aspect to this doppelbock as well. Hits your palate and kind of spins around your mouth. Each sip brings a richer and more well-rounded taste. Now I’m hooked. Heavy lacing and nice 1/4" off-white head that stayed floating on top, even when the beer was about half way through. Warming, smooth. I should have bought another one of these. AmEricanbrew (1929), orange, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2005 500 ml bottle. Pours a deep brown with a light brown head. Rich, complex, malty nose, somewhat sweet, molasses with hints of tobacco. Flavor is molasses, malt, sweet. Awesome balance achieved with the hops! About the most balanced beer I’ve had to date! As it warms a bit, some toasted flavors shine through, and bit of caramel and coffee. Finish is a touch dry, smooth and clean, leaving a bit of malt to remember it by. Body is a touch thin for a doppelbock, but it is the only tiny fault in a great beer. How can this be so cheap? At under three bucks, a huge bargain! ucusty (1912), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2005 Bottle poured a deep mahogany with an initially large and highly quaffable tan head. Aroma is dark fruits and wood, slightly mineral, but awesomely malted. (A little chocolate in there too!) Flavor was really well-done with thick malt sweetness, a hint of salty bouillon, and a consistent, bittersweet finish that lingers. Borders on "full-bodied" with a syrupy yet dry texture. Very good.
