Malty, bready aroma, caramel and mild dark fruits. Sweetfruity, bready malt flavor, fairly port like. Burnt treacle finish, stays sweet but not cloying and balances out fairly well. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 3, 2005 Creamy texture and roundness in mouthfeel. Big alcohol feel. Burnt honey sweetness with some dried fruits and raisons. Alcohol presence increases markedly as it warms. And strangely the mouthfeel thinned out, almost to the point of point deduction. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2005 Bottled. Big smell of caramelly malts when opened. Pours deep brown under a thick brown head. Taste is very sweet, but not cloying, with a touch of dark honey, and perhaps a slight banana weizen note. Alcohol is pretty subtle until you get further into the glass. There’s a lot of beer packed into this .5 liter bottle. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2004 Dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is mountainous and pretty creamy. Falls quickly. Not impressed with this ones "style".
Nose is full of clove spicyness, alcohol, orange, toasted malts and a little banana.
Great Flavor. Banana, almond, caramel, molasses, coffee, cinnamon, sweet malts, toasted malts and other spices. Somewhat herbal. Very good tasting Doppelbock. I enjoyed this one and would like to revisit it soon. LinusStick (1852), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Updated: Feb 15, 2008A nice doppelbock. A little too thin and watery to be great. Aroma is good. Strong caramel malt and sticky Sugar Daddies. Pour was a beautiful deep red/amber with no head. Taste was nice and sweet but not full enough. Strong caramel malt with a hint of roasted malt and some smoke. Doppelbocks are hit or miss with me and this is leaning towards the good side. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2006 Pour is a nice dark red with a tan head. Aroma is toasted malts, fruits and hops. Flavor is very toasty and malty with hints of caramel. A very tasty rep of the style but Celebrator is still king. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 20, 2007 Dark mahogany and a rather excessive and frothy head. Sweet and malty aroma with just a hint of nuttiness. The flavor is forcefully malty with some notes of sweetness... candy or caramel like. The finish is cloying and almost salty, but this is a good beer. Beer2000 (1845), Kristiansand, Norway
