Sweet and malty aroma with just a hint of nuttiness. The flavor is forcefully malty with some notes of sweetness... candy or caramel like. The finish is cloying and almost salty, but this is a good beer. SDbruboy (1833), San Diego, California, USA

Pours dark brown with burnt sienna highlights and a large tan head that diminished mostly leaving fleeting lacing. Aroma of rich malts and dark, dried fruits, molasses, a bit of earth and rum pudding. Flavor is sweet like raisin juice with notes of coffee, molasses and alfalfa and floral hops a bit cloying in time. Full, thick body with very little carbonation. Nice beer overall. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 13, 2005 Large. light brown head of fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Quite creamy on top. Great head retention and reformation. Roasty aroma with a bit of milk and soy. Nice dark port brown in color. Malty and roasty flavor. Little bit of bitterness. Little bit of fruit. Alcohol is minimal in the taste but you do feel a nice warming in the stomach. Body is a little thinner than expected. Finish is roasty and a little creamy but still finishes pretty clean. A pretty good dopplebock. thornecb (1816), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 13, 2003 Smooth and toffee flavored all over, a tiny hop bite (could be more!) - thinnish, handles the 7.4% well, not overly sweet - a very good dopple. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 10, 2005 Bottle. Nose-smells like a freshly swept barn floor. Taste-great straw/hay, wheat, some molasses. Great quick finish that is slightly spicy and sweet. Excellent beer. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2003 Dark reddish brown body with a tan head that disappeared too quickly. Could not distinguish the aroma except to say that it was sweet. Full to the mouth with some caramel notes. A delicious beer.
