Aroma is a fruity roasted scent. Taste is roasted, sweet and smoky. Starting with a medium body it goes down easy with a sweet nip on the end. Finish comes on with some dried fruit ( raisin and prune ) then a roasted flavor with a touch of smoke and very easy bitterness. Overall this is a tasty brew with a nice balanced flavor. Beautiful colour, lacing in the glass (little head though), and expected malty nose. The nose is a genuine malty hit with chocolate and caramel flavours present. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2008 Pours a nice dark brown color with some copper highlights. Light tan head. Nose is brown sugar, caramel, and a hint of roasted malt. Taste is very muted as I only pick up sugar and some malt. Very hard to taste anything. The alcohol content is well hidden I will say that. jaymobrown (1360), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 31, 2003 Dark oak color. With thin white head that quickly fades. Big malt nose, with a type of syrup sweetness. Some soft notes of hops found in the end. Not really thick, but not watery by any means. Sort of tastes like plums, raisins, and caramel mixed together. An interesting mix of flavors. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Bottle, John’s Grocery, Iowa City. Deep brown pour, lots of light tan head that fades away fairly quickly. Inky raisin and milk chocolate aroma. Soft chocolate flavor with sort of an iron/chalk edge. A bit of lingering raisin. For all the sweetness, it still presents a little thin. Not bad, but leaves me a bit indifferent. HonkeyBra (1350), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2009 Big, dark brown pour with tan filmy head. Caramelly aroma with notes of tobacco, toffee and roasted malts. Flavor is mostly roasted malt, toffee, caramel, some coffee notes, some fruit, a little weird finish. A hearty, nice mouthfeel. Good, but not great.
