Clear, dark orange lager with a large, frothy, off-white head. Great retention. The aroma is doughy and fruity. It smells of whole-grain bread, honey and a Red Eye made with lots of tomato juice and just about any premium, pale lager. For whatever reason, this totally works for me. The malty, breadsy flavor is full of dough and golden raisins. Full-bodied and silky with mild carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet, but mostly dry. World class effort! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2003 Dry, musty aroma of caramel, dark chocolate, and a touch of nuttiness. Medium to dark brown colored with a small ring of foam. Good, well-rounded flavor of roasted nuts and chewy malt. Lot's of malt in this one, which makes me a fan. If it were a tad thicker, darker, and sweeter, then it would rival Celebrator. Bov (5508), Bienne, Switzerland

Soy sauce and sweet caramel/toffee characters and not a lot else. Admittedly this is not my favourite style, but i have been pleasantly surprised in the past (Andechser!!). Somehow i was expecting more, from a brewery i really like. JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 9, 2007 Very dark ruby red beer with a dark amber big-bubbled head. Diacetyl, toffee, buttertoffees, and a bit of fresh greenery, molasses. And raw grain. Not very sweet, lots of roastiness, burnt parts of the roast. Ends dry, even just off-woody. Even not too sweet, it’s sticky on the lips. Medium to well-bodied. Nice Doppelbock, no doubt. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

A decent Doppelbock, well balanced.......
