Beautiful dark brown body with a huge coffee colored head. Good complexity of toasted malt, sour mash, sweet toffee, and licorice. Lightly hopped, but great balance. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2008 A clear dark red/brown colored beer, with a nice beige foamy head. It disappears quit quickly. An aroma of milk chocolate, some cherries, a touche of nutes. The taste is light roated malts, some vanilla and caramel. A medium body. It has a mild hop and bitternes. Not a bad beer. durhambeer (1224), Durham, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Deep brown pour with thick and creamy light tan/slightly yellowish head. Malty caramel, some wheat, and notes of chocolate and hazelnuts on the nose. Stronger chocolate and nuts on the palate. Great long finish. nuplastikk (1218), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2009 500 ml bottle. Deep stained glass brown color. Big, foamy head. The aroma is all out lagery, sweet with a caramel funkiness. Smooth and creamy on the palate, this goes down oh so easy. Toffee and butterscotch tones. Pretty sessionable ABV keeps it light and drinkable. No real hop character. Excellent beer. zebracakes (1216), Washington DC, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark caramel ruby, off white head. Aroma is caramel, malt, wet earth, grass, nuts, toffee. Flavor is wheat, malt, caramel, vanilla, roasted nuts, molasses. The aroma threw me a bit off because I’m not a fan of wet earthy smells. Overall, pretty decent. BuckNaked (1209), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2005 Bottle: Pours to a deep brown with a thick deep tan head that seems to die somewhat quickly. Aroma is good caramel, nuts, light roast, and hints of fruits such as apple and pear. The taste is fruity caramel, very thick right from the get go, followed by bread, dough, nutty malts, a hint of booze on the second sip, then it shows some hints of birch or oak wood, and if you look for it - a hint of spicy hops towards the end. Finishes sticky with notes of roasted ground malt, caramel, and a hint of coffee. Medium-full bodied, medium carbonation that really helps to keep this one easy to drink, sticky and a little syrupy. However it’s never overwhelming and actually quite easy to drink. This must be 10x better when fresh, but it still holds up quite well in the bottle even after the trip to the states. Pours reddish-brown with an ample head. The nose is heavily malted, with a strong scent of agar broth and hints of burnt sugar and dried fruit.
The alcohol shows up surprisingly early and with surprising dominance in the early flavor; the other dominant flavors are molassas and dark-roasted grain with a bit of a robitussin toward the end edging to a woody finish. Mouthfeel is thick and rich, almost syrupy, though balanced by an ample carbonation.
This is a good beer, but it’s simply not in the league of Ayinger Celebrator. markwise (1200), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
