This one I did not like all that much. It had that sweetness that I enjoy and a hint of chocolate but for some reason the maltyness seemed unbalanced and rushed. Strange in fact, it makes me think that I got a bad bottle. I understand where it is going, however I just dont think that I am ready for it. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Pours dark brown but clear. Lots of fine carbonation bubbles keep the head afloat. Aroma is quite raw. I can actually smell the roasted grain, this is a good thing. Flavor is dry, and of burnt coffee. A bit acidic as well. Ehh. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2005 Dark red amber color with a good sized head that went down in a short time. The aroma is thick and hearty. It’s pretty full of roasted character, and some earthy sweetness. Flavor is lightly roasted, and sugary sweet. Palate is slightly bitter. This is a really well rounded beer, but not standout. goozen (1088), Leiden, Netherlands

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours ruby with a large tanned head. Sweet malts and toffee dominate the nose. The flavour is sweet malt, caramel, toffee and dark fruit. There’s stickiness in the mouthfeel and also a light warmth from the alcohol with more sweet maltiness coming through in the finish. A classic doppelbock. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Bottled, very cold. Pours similar to a cola. Nose is roasted malts and some toffee. Taste is the same with a bit of alcohol evident towards the end. One of the few Weihenstephaners that didn’t have clove flavors. Finish is bitter. Good beer, above average drinkability, but left me wanting more..
