Thick tan colored head faded quickly. Aromas are of roasted Carafa malts, toffee, and yeasty bread. Flavors are of brown sugar, sweet caramel malts, slight bready flavors. Rich mouthfeel, decent body. Finished slightly sweet & roasty. jb (1059), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2006 This one tasted especially good as I used it to help celebrate a drubbing of the hapless Cowboys tonight in the NFL. This is a strong rich good bock. Dark orangish brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of alcohol, fruitcake, malt and caramel. Rich palate that is all at once sugary, chocolaty, roasted but then it peters out just a bit at the end. Loved it but probably not the best of the style. MrBendo (1047), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 31, 2007 Hazy mahogany with a large head. Head retention was low. Aroma of caramel, roasted nuts, dark fruits and bread. Raisins and toffee is the taste. Medium to heavy body. Slightly syrupy texture. Sweet finish. Pleasantly surprising. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2008 Flaske. Mørkebrun øl, næsten stout agtig i farven. Sød og maltet i duften. Dette gik endnu mere igennem i smagen. Typisk doppelbock men nuancerne druknede en smule i den søde maltbase. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA

Brown pour, very brown mild head and not much lacing. Aroma is of bakery sweet rolls, rather malty and sugary. Filling mouthfeel, real smooth finish bites a little. Flavor is too sugary sweet for my liking, but this being a dopplebock it’s not a surprise. Bready with decent malt content it’s one and out for this brew. Ron (1039), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2007 One bottle from BOTW. Poured a large slightly tan head. Deep brown color with a sweet toasted malt aroma. Flavor the same. A nice thick chewy bock. It’s great that there is no hops bite in this. Just goodness. Buttery, rye bready roasted aroma, little vinous fruits, rowanberry, coffee and nuttiness. Roasted malty flavor, sweet rye, berries, herbal licorice finish. A tad alcoholic, smooth full palate. A great dobbelbock. Beardface (1036), Eugene, Oregon, USA

Very pleasant roasted caramel flavor with some molasses and chewy nut flavors. Very nice nutty and caramelly aroma as well. My third straight winner from the oldest brewery in the world.
