Caramel and sweet malt aroma. A deep russet color with a thin compressed head. Molasses come out right away in the fore then come raisin, malt and alcohol. There is warming quality from the alcohol which makes you feel as if you have dipped your tongue into a cherry infused Navy rum. Very enjoyable drink marred only by a slightly too aggressive alcohol flavor.

Dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is mountainous and pretty creamy. Falls quickly. Not impressed with this ones "style". Nose is full of clove spicyness, alcohol, orange, toasted malts and a little banana. Great Flavor. Banana, almond, caramel, molasses, coffee, cinnamon, sweet malts, toasted malts and other spices. Somewhat herbal. Very good tasting Doppelbock. I enjoyed this one and would like to revisit it soon.

Never disappointment from Weihenstephaner.. this one is a good example of what a dopplebock should be. I’m not the biggest fan of the style, especially the aroma, but this particular one had a pleasing smell. Its a deep clear red which looks very nice held up to the light, weak head but very powerful aroma. The flavor is very roasted chocolate like, which is good but better if I were in the mood for it. The roasted malt could be maybe a tad less aggressive, but other than that I really love it.

Sugary sweet aroma is mostly plum and fig, but also hints at oak, sherry, rye bread and dark chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. The body is a wave of refreshing malt that layers toffee, brown sugar, nutty bread and bakers chocolate. Not overly sweet. Beautifully complex - and everything fits. Very solid Doppel.

Pours a deep cola brown, a little bit reddish when held to the light, with half an inch or more of tan foam. Minimal head retention and lacing. Strong and sweet aroma - caramel malt, maplenut, some chocolate, and an earthy fruitiness. Bold flavor up front, very malty and both sweet and dry. Chocolate, brown sugar, and earthy maple dominate, with some subtle dried fruit in there as well. Finishes less sweet than the initial flavor, and leaves an oaky, nutty dry aftertaste. Now there’s sweet caramel and cheap chocolate soda in the aftertaste. Complex and flavorful. Not quite medium body, carbonation on the light side. With all those flavors going on, I find myself just a little bit disappointed that the flavor quits a bit early.

Nice aroma of dark roasted grains and malt, wheat, yeast, some caramel-like sweetness, dried fruits (raisins, dates, plums). Generous foamy head, nice dark brownish reddish color. Nice rich flavors of sweet malt, wheat, yeast, dried fruits, with sweet caramel and toffee undertones. Crisp and refreshing despite the heaviness of this beer. Awesome.

Pours a burnt sienna with a cloudy body that has a thick tan head. The nose is sweet with a sour, funky, nutty, aroma....tough to make out other flavors. The taste is fantasic, caramel malt, herbal tea, tart bitterness. The sweetness brings forth so many flavors......dark fruits, raisins, plum, very creamy, roasted nuts. This is a very tasty doppelbock!

(500 ml bottle from http://hitimewine.com) Body is the color of birch beer. Head is rich-looking, creamy, biscuit-colored. Good lacing. Aroma is awesome - sweet malt, honey, raisins, molasses, caramel, hay. Dark, rich, sweet doppelbock taste. A little dry. This is excellent. Doesn’t finish quite as well as some of the other doppels I have had, so that is my only complaint.
