One of my favorite doppelbocks, even better than Celebrator in my opinion. Poured a deep reddish brown. Smelled malty, chocolatey and peppery. Tasted slightly burnt; full-bodied. Traces of chestnuts or pecans and dark chocolate help to make this beer rich. There’s a pumpernickel aspect to this doppelbock as well. Hits your palate and kind of spins around your mouth. Each sip brings a richer and more well-rounded taste. Now I’m hooked. Heavy lacing and nice 1/4" off-white head that stayed floating on top, even when the beer was about half way through. Warming, smooth. I should have bought another one of these. Aroma is quite intense and matches the taste of the beer. Rich, nutty, chocolatey, toffee taste. Sweet and creamy. Oily, silky smooth consistency. Alcohol taste is not very noticeable. Makes for a nice dessert/after dinner drink. Overall, the best dopplebock I have had to date. yemenmocha (421), Glendale, Arizona, USA

Nose is tough to discern in my wide mouthed German stein but is bready, roasty, and rich.
On the palate is a smooth medley of roasty malts, brown bread, some brown sugar and/or caramel too. All of this glides around elegantly with a smooth, medium body. Very sexy beer.
Finish is lightly sweet with some alcohol. Warming.

Very pretty auburn colored pour, remindining me of a redhead I once new. Creamy white head settles on the top, and lasts all the way down the tall slender glass.
Aromas typical of a dopplebock, and not overly pronounced. Sweet malts dominated, with brown sugar and toffee overtones. Almost a Heath bar in a glass.
Wonderful taste. Sweet malts prevail, but the beer is not overly syrupy. There is no doubt that this is a doppelbock. Slight alcoholicy bitterness lingers slightly on the palate.
Creamy, smooth, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. I could drink these all night!
Overall, this is an exceptional beer, worthy of its high rating. Highly recommended!

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 5, 2009 This doppelbock is excellent, with plenty of character, yet great balance and drinkability.
Dark red-brown, it has a creamy tan head that shrinks very slowly to a thin foamy top and leaves a little lace.
The aroma is toasted whole wheat bread, scorched raisiny syrup, and hints of wood, hay, and grain.
The taste has firm, complex character but is smooth and very pleasant. It has prunes, wood, raisins, whole wheat toast, and some spice. The sweetness is firm but balanced with toasty, peppery-spicey bitterness that takes over at the finish.
