This is a very malty beer, smells like a can of malt extract. Flavor is massive, full of malt and alcohol. Sweet almost cherry flavors in the highly alcoholic finish. This is one prize of a beer. Overall, this is an awesome beer. It should be slowly enjoyed from a snifter. Bottles are the perfect size too. Outstanding!!! Pours a very dark brown with a creamy head similar to the Hefeweizen. The aroma is not really powerful, but it is very pleasant. I pick up raisin, a little chocolate, coffee, malts and some wine. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma except for the great mouthfeel. I am quite impressed, but I think there Hefeweizen is better. The mouthfeel is so creamy in the beers from this brewery. Very impressive. Dacrza (253), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 25, 2009 Pours a velvet black smooth body with a thick, reasonably stiff off-white head--imposing in a Schneider glass...floral, malty balance--a bit of berry dances with a soft hops bouquet... complex, definite presence of banana, clove and caramel... soft, thin, warm mouthfeel; light for a doppelbock, almost with a weizen lift--the aftertaste is appropriately warming...smooth and deceptively soft--a pleasure to taste with a balance of malty solidness and and wheat in the teeth...a perfect treat for an unseasonably humid evening in May, refreshingly versatilefor spring, summer or fall... mike1977ok (648), Netherlands
