Rich black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, dark fruit, and caramel; Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, dark fruit - notably plums, and some chocolate; Subtle bitterness at the finish; Nicely balanced; Overall, a great brew.

Pours medium brown darkening to a deep brown/black. Thin head with little retention. Very malty on the nose. Kind of coffee flavor, no bitterness or not much detectable. Thick smooth body with low carbonation.

Bottle from the Dallas Ginger Man. Dark ruby pour with rosy touches. Has a dark musty smell with the same smell as you drive south on 35W passing the Miller plant next door to Mrs. Baird’s bakery. Taste is very bready. Has a kind of birthday cake aftertaste. This is weird as hell and I’m not feelin it.

Bottle. Cloudy brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, faint yeast and malt. Great medium to full bodied taste of caramel, roasted malt and bread. Nice even finish that completely masks the alcohol.

16.9 ounce bottle - $2.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a clear, very dark reddish-brown body with a foamy, bubbly, light beige head. Smell: Deep, dark breadiness marked by some slight roast undertones. Minor hints of cocoa, dark fruits, and nuts. Smells a bit like that American single-slice pumpernickel bread you occasionally find wrapped in plastic. Taste: Presents a pleasant taste of powdered, unsweetened chocolate and viciously crushed cola nuts sprinkled atop a thick piece of crusty, very dark bread. Modestly sweet. Lightly fruity taste of plums dunked in simple syrup. Mild bitterness midway with a touch of dried herbs. Finishes very smooth with the dark breadiness giving way to a bit more fruit and just a touch of alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-light carbonation. Rather smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: A bit darker, lesser alcoholic and fruity than many doppelbocks out there -- I dug it! I mean, there’s only so much alcohol and fruit a man really needs, right?

Dark cola color with an off white head that thins but lasts around the edge of the glass. Nose is raisin with carmelized sugar. Roasty taste but very drinkable. Good palate, slightly oily. Overall a very good beer.
