Lots of carbonation with light dough like aroma. A pretty simple brew not much hop smell or taste. It has a little more body to it than an American Pilsner and a little more taste too. It finishes a little dry and doesn’t outdo itself with taste either. presario (2996), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Light cookie aroma. Sweet but flavour is like a mild pilsener. No strong hops or finish. Very good with a meal. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA

Smells very fresh. In the mouth I get a bit of yeast bite but that is it. Dry on the palate. Ultimately quite bland. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2005 I smell chicken, but that’s dinner. Let me go to the other room. BBQ sauce? No...to the bathroom. Turn the fan on. Aroma of stale dried celery (and this time, it’s not dinner). So, stale dried celery aroma. Mouthfeel is thin sparkling cider, but without the astringency--maintaining the dry finish without the sweet/sour pucker. A touch malty, well-balanced with the hops; the yeast variety blends imperceptibly into the finish. From bottle. Strykzone (1485), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 20, 2005 The appearance of this beer when just poured is delightful. Gorgeous golden color with a nice white head. The head quickly disappears leaving only a lacing around the edge of the glass. The flavor of the beer was as clean as can be imagined. A slight citrusy flavor is evident but certainly not in overwhelming quantities. Very enjoyable. The only downside was that about midway through the glass it picked up a bitterness that was unfortunate. beerandrugby (210), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Yellow body with a creamy white head. "German" aroma... reminds me of a few nights of over-imbibing around October. Its mostly a caramelly malt with light hop presence. Taste is a little more bitter, but there is still that sweet malt to back it up. The bitterness gets into a slightly astringent papery thing, almost like licking envelope glue. Not my cup of tea... cathcacr (590), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 7, 2005 Saw this at the beer store today and remembered that I had it some time back. For a German lager, it’s about as standard as it gets, perhaps even moreso than Warsteiner. More soft on the palate, though, more round-feeling in the presentation, a little more sweet. I guess this is the true Original, using the oldest recipe in recorded history.
