Sucked down a litre of this at the Weihenstephan Biergarten in Freising. Second half of a day trip that started at Kloster Andechs. After the walk from the train station through the town and then up the hill to the campus Biergarten, this was more than welcome. Deep red color, almost brown, with a tan head. I’ve got to admit that I was not delicate with this beer. No swirling, no wafting. I chugged. And it was good. Smooth, chocolatey, some roastiness. Wiping off my chin with my shirt cuff....Ahhhhh.....

Pours dark tawny in color. Medium beige head, not so good retention. Mild malty aroma, a little bit sweet. Taste is strong malt, a little roastness, and bitter-sweet. Resiny mouthfeel. There’s a little acidity in the aftertaste that makes it very refreshing. A well balanced dunkel. Very good! So bad it is expensive here in Brazil... :( Re-rating: it is a wonderful beer. I’m loving it more and more...

Pours dark-amber nicely color with a rich but faster head. Horny nose with roasted malt. Dry mouthfeel, slight bitterness with malty and sweet flavor. Light bitter afertaste. So good!

Bottled, 0.5 liter BB August 2006 (sampled december 2006). Clear amber brown coloured. Malts and fruit in aroma, some notes of port-wine. Sweet malty flavour with some notes one normally finds in aged trappist ales, i’m not sure how to describe it though. Very nice balance, lasting finish. Good beer.

Smells of sweet dark bread. Brown colour, average thickness of the head. Taste of butter and cloves, very satisfying. Untunately the finish sort of stops in the middle.

Mahogany colours, with a small creamy head, lots of bubbles rushing upwards. Malty, nutty, yeasty, chocolatey aromas. Low bitterness, great medium body - smooth.

500ml bottle from Utobeer. Ruby red beer with lasting beige head. Dark malts and charcoal on aroma. Nice toffeeish choc flavours in mouth. Some dark fruits. Rounded. Some dryness on end. Good dunkel, very drinkable and would easily have had another bottle.

Bottled. Dark reddish brown color, decent head. Sweet aroma of munchener malt with hints of caramel, nuts, licorice and pine. The taste dryer, but still malty and caramelly. Some resinous aroma and flavor like in the real ales hopped with East Kent Goldings. Some bitterness and mild roasted tone in the finish.
