Aroma: fruity, malty nose, grainy with very light smoky character. Good dunkel. bells (4), Australia does not count | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 20, 2006 When poured it displays a slightly off-white head over a deep red/brown beer.
Excellent malt aromas displaying molasses, rye, spices (cardamom?) wood smoke and earthy/dirty tones.
Initially sweet on the palate with more grainy, rye malt characters with the uncomplicated dusty/dry-grassy bitterness developing mid-palate. Some sourness and astringency follows to balance the sweetness and leave the palate revived. Quite a substantial mouth feel yet not overwhelming with fine carbonation for balance.
Long lingering aftertastes of malt sweetness and alcohol give a warm pleasant finish.
