| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2009 On tap at Volo. Pours a dark black with small mocha cap. Roasty nose with a definite coffee presence. Flavour has coffee and dark fruit. Alcohol is fairly apparent. Body on the thin side, at least for the style. Overall still enjoyable though. strowlands8 (80), Ontario, Canada

After waiting a while I chose this as my second pint. They were only doing 330ml pours which was too bad; I could easily have enjoyed a full pint. If I am ever back in Ontario however I will definitely be picking up some more of this for my cellar.
Aroma / Appearance - Deep black but not nearly as oily and dense as many others this is on the lighter side of the style. Smoke, berries, coffee, and malt are present but overall I feel like it might be a bit on the thin side.
Flavor / Palate - Malt and roasted coffee give this a nice kick. Dry smoke comes next followed by a fruity licorice finish. All told it is decent but run of the mill. I guess it works as they seem to successful in moving the product. MrChopin (638), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Heavy chocolate and coffee in the nose, rather plain. Flavor has more, coffee, chocolate, heavy licorice, and minor alcohol. Rather salty and slightly thin, the alcohol is noticeable throughout after warming. bhensonb (4268), Woodland, California, USA

Pours very black with a good dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate. And dark toasted malt. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is burnt malt, chocolate, anise?, coffee? Almost chewy at points. Coffee does come forth in the finish. Nicely bitter. Good stuff. marcus (1860), Sacramento, California, USA
