Bottle from the Brewery. Chestnut brown with fizzy light brown head. Aroma is of malt, caramel and strong coffee with a very similar taste. Palate is fizzy and light to medium. It has a short, slightly bitter finish and, while enjoyable, is overall nothing too special.

Bottle in a trade with matt7215....7-30-09....Licorice and brown sugar aroma--they don’t mix well.....reddish brown with no foam....malted cherry ....light bodied yet substantial...well balanced and good

Dark ruby cola colour with a thin head. Aroma is gorgeous, it’s almost like sticking your nose into a good whisky or bourbon bottle. Oak, spice malt in the aroma. Taste is great, with a great spicy aftertaste. Full flavour and mouthfeel with a little bitterness. Great beer, glad I bought a 6’er.

On cask at Volo. Appearance: purple red with no head. Aroma: port, malt, spice, alcohol. Flavour: spicy malt followed by a nice vine flavour with grass and bitterness to follow. Nice long bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with amber highlights, medium tan head. Aroma is sweet burnt toffee, faintly fruity. Sweet caramel flavour, a little nutty and fruity with a surprising smokey element. Medium bodied, sweetness lingers in the finish impairing its drinkability somewhat. Still, decent enough.

Ruby brown , minimal off-white head, had no lacing, alcoholic warming, aroma of dark fruits, berries, roasted malt and malty bitterness. Medium carbonation, reminds me of Trois Pistoles. Pretty decent alcohol is a little overwhelming, but still a decent offering.

Bottle. Ruby amber in colour with a sizable tan head. Head retention is really excellent; the creamy, foaming head lasts throughout. Aroma of caramel, molasses in the malt with nuts and ripe melon, dried peach, prune. Mouthfeel is thin. Flavour is sadly, fairly watery with some more molasses. It’s fairly smokey, with caramel and plenty of nuts. The finish is medium in length with more smoke.

Nice brown colour, good size head. Nose; nutty, caramel, coffee, very sweet. Flavours were similar, not quite bitter enough of a finsh. But good.

Caramel, chocolate, and a bit of an alcohol warmth that comes through in the finish. When compared to the "Wellington County Dark", this beer is by far the superior brew. Sweet and nutty, with a bit of roast.
