Englander_1986 (51), Middlesbrough, England Nov 11, 2006 A good idea, and a good tasting bitter, in my opinion. Although I havent been able to find any since I bought it that one time 2 years ago. Mid brown coloured and rich on the palate with some floral aroma. Slightly bitter on the palate with a full malt flavoured finish. imdownthepub (4043), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England Dec 17, 2005 Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Chestnut coloured with a whisp of a head. Sweet malty sticky beer, but lacks the fruit and nut / spice flavours expected for true winter warmers. It’s a bit insipid and understated to be a buy again beer, once is enough. duff (5405), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Jan 23, 2005 Cask@The Crown, Richmond, London. Mine was under the name ’Winter Cheer@ although i may have taken the name down incorrectly, the abv was also 5.5% so i’m guessing they’re the same beer. It was OK, some caramel and dark fruit and some light citrus and anise. Not much happening, but drinkable. chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Dec 27, 2004 I’m guessing that this is the same beer that has previously been known as Winter Cheer (same ABV) but, as nobody’s rated that, it’s rather academic. This has an attractive reddish/mid brown colour that presages warmth and Christmas character. Sadly, the reality is rather more prosaic. It’s a fruity, slightly nutty beer with a bit of sweetness. However, it’s really not sufficiently rich to succeed as a real winter warmer and there’s not enough bite for an ESB. Consequently, the beer falls rather uncomfortably between the two. Pleasant enough but not very distinctive. Cask (handpump) at the Devereux, Temple, London.
