Commercial Description:
Unusual name, unusual beer! The “Waggle Dance” is the movement a bee performs to alert the hive to a source of nectar. The Waggle Dance beer is a beautifully balanced, sneakily seductive, golden coloured beer. it is popular both as a cask ale (Alc. 4.0% Vol.) and in 500ml bottle (Alc. 5.0% Vol.) across a wide range of beer lovers both male and female and of all (legal) drinking ages. A striking pump clip and bottle label designs ensure high awareness to Waggle Dance amongst drinkers in both the On- and Off-Trade “Amber beer with a touch of honey on the nose and palate. The sweetness is balanced by a healthy dose of hops to provide the bitterness that gives a wonderfully delicate flavour.” Pale Ale and Crystal malts and British Fuggle and Golding hops, together with South American honey, combine perfectly to create this delicious golden ale with a superb honey aroma.

Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml from Morrisons, Banbury. Burnt gold with white head. A little on the sweet side, the honeyed notes seem to be stronger now than I remember. There is caramel from the pasteurisation, but not too badly done. Strange that this is marketed as a Wells beer now. Ah well.

Bottle, that I had at Loz’s parents 11-12-09 Pours golden with a white head. A little honey is detected on the nose but more so in the mouth, touch of boiled sweets along with a limp bitterness. It was ok, I was thirsty, nothing special but also nothing to write home about. A5 A3 F6 P3 Ov11 2.8

Clear light to medium yellow orange color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, sour malt notes, sugar, acrid honey. Flavor is moderate sweet and acrid honey bitter with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20090813]

500ml bottle. Looks strong in the glass and is a deep honey colour with a solid white head that lingers. Zesty earthy araomas and a well balanced honey flavour. Dry finish and mild sweetness.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty slightly grassy honey aroma. Sweetish malty fruity honey flavor. Has a sweetish malty honey finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Sweet honey aroma. Amber with little head. Flavour is caramel, hops and very little honey. Rather bitter. Thin body. Finishes bitter caramel apple, if you can imagine such a combination. I’ve had better.

50cl clear glass bottle, as shown. Pours a clean golden amber with almost no head and little lacing. Faint aroma of malt and, yes, some honey. Grainy, watery mouth feel, medium carbonation. Taste is also disappointingly bland, with only a whiff of honey in it, but mostly dry hops and malt. Medium bitter taste, not sweet at all(!), and a dry, mildly hoppy finish. The after taste has some honey-ish sweetness to it, but it’s all rather meek and mild. Of the honey-inflected English ales, Fuller’s Honey Dew communicates its raison d’etre far more convincingly. This brew is essentially a pale blonde, or rather, bland lager with honey as a weak afterthought. A major letdown after the same brewery’s excellent Special London Ale.
