Jul 1, 2009 Dark ruby brown with a firm and lasting tan head. Intense sweet bready malt aroma, with dried fruits, molasses, cognac. Rich and sweet malt and caramel flavour, with darker notes of licorice and dark molasses. It’s sweet, but balanced enough.

Jun 23, 2009 Bottled sample. Red-brown in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas of sweet malts, plum, cooked sugar, wet stones, and a whiff of smoke. Strong toffee-like malt flavors in the mouth, along with notes of black licorice, mild chocolate, bread dough, and flint. In spite of all of the malt focus, the sweetness is kept right in check by the mineral-like acidity. Very well balanced for someone like me who prefers their beers on the dryer side. Well done

Jun 15, 2009 pleasant aroma with notes of caramel, lemony citrus, and candy-like spice; tasty bittersweet flavor with notes of grape tasting fruit, caramel, and a little of that spice; smooth, definitely; good beer - would consider it a regular bock, however.

Jun 6, 2009 Extremely bitter, headless, unremarkable. bread crust and alcohol flavors. Not pleasant. I like my doppelbock sweet, and this was far from it. $4 half liter bottle at Zeke’s Miami Beach.

Jun 5, 2009 Aroma of peanuts and molasses with a strong smell of dog food dominant. Clear brown, with a firm thick tan head. Extra full body. Very sweet flavor of roasted barley and molasses. Grassy bark finish. Weird off flavor of some sort of chemical that comes and goes. I don’t understand why this is rated as highly as it is, but then again, I’m not crazy about bocks.

Jun 4, 2009 A nice caramel malty brew with a semi-sweet palate and a hint of tart and spice in the finish. The colour is deep ruby and quite dark. Enjoyable.

Jun 2, 2009 Much too sweet, malty and citrusy for my taste. As a dark bock it truly fits the mold. Extra strong and powerful brew with a robust finish. The caramel aroma is potent. Alcohol is definelty well hidden. Lots of complex esters working overtime and an excellent winter brew. Too bad I am drinking it in the 90 degree heat!

May 26, 2009 500 ml bottle in Germany. Weltenburger has been making beer for nearly 1000 years and it shows. Fine dark brown color, smokey aroma, smooth deep malty flavor that lingers. One of the best bock beers of the world. Goes down too easy and will catch up with you if you have many of them. The % is hidden well in the flavor. I don’t give out 4’s often but here is one.
