Bottle from LCBO. Dark brown in colour with small, vanishing off-white head. Rich, sweet and malty in taste and smell. Smoky/Roasted aftertaste. A very enjoyable, easy drinking doppelbock, and a great example of this style.

Somewhat malty and toffee like. Old world in appearnace and flavour. Nice flowing dark brown bock. Good slow winter beverage.

Pours a dark mahogany brown with a quickly diminshing head. Aroma is very sweet and malty. The flavour starts with a bit of a metallic taste, but that gives way to big sweet malty flavours, caramel, toffee, and finishes on a light note of licorice. A real tasty brew.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark, burnt caramel colour, exactly like Coke, with a medium sized tan head. Aroma: Metalic hops, loads of caramalt, chocolate, toffee, oats, and roasty, almost burned malts. It’s very reminiscent of dark German bread, except it’s dipped in molasses, and I love it! It smells really good! Taste: Quite sweet, as I expected, but not overly so. Most of the above mentioned aspects, but a bit of smokey peat is evident. Awesome fuller mouth-feel. A little bit of alcohol is evident, but not as much as I was fearing. it’s extremely well integrated actually. There’s an undertone of tinny hops that is mild buy keeps this sweet brew from being cloying, which speaks volumes of the quality of this brewers abilities. The quasey creepy guy on the label somehow makes this beer more enjoyable, like, this is what some really weird but cool Imperial German guy must drink. One of my all-time favourite beers.

Draft at Fatheads in Pittsburgh. Pours a deep reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is malty with notes of maple, cherry, and raisen. Medium bodied and not overly carbonated. There is lots of complexity, and different flavors come out with every sip- like raisen, dark bread, chocolate, peat, and caramel. There is a nice amount of residual sweetness to tie everything together. The is a moderate amount of european hop bitterness right at the very end. This is a very nice beer. I would gladly drink this again.

Pours dark mahogany with a full, lingering froth. Sweet aromas of mildly roasted malts. Medium nectar with mild carbonation. It has an oily texture. Roasted grahm crackers and molases push forward pulling coffee bean and gentle cocoa behind. This is very old world, rustic. The mild sweetness lingers on the finish with a slowly emerging mildly brisk acidity. Good balance and very appealing.

50cl bottle - slightly hazy, dark red beer, with an impressive, frothy lace - aroma of fig, raisin, cherry, prune, light caramel, some mild tart, fruit skin character - wonderfully inviting - smooth, creamy body - the flavor is heavy on the raisin at first, with a hint of rum, minus the booziness - notes of brown sugar, rolled oats, roasted nuts - the roasted qualities become stronger as the sweetness dissipates, and very light hints of anise and vanilla ride the drier roasty flavor through the finish - this beer is great.
