ako (153), Turku, Finland Dec 7, 2007 Dark, rubyish color. Sweet and malty aroma, very tempting. Flavor adds roasted malt to the sweetness, near perfect balance. Wonderful, wonderful doppelbock. Leaves you with a perfect dry finish just asking for more. wastl (113), Germany Dec 1, 2007 Bottle. Deep brownish red colour. Aroma of caramel malts. Long malty finish. Above average Bock. Walzenbrew (2), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Nov 26, 2007 This is the best Bock I’ve had outside Germany. Malty sweet but not cloying, strong with no bite - it’s a maltheads’ dream! Puts other dopples like Celebrator to shame. Boesky (39), Galesburg, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2007 Bottle. Deep ruby, decent fine-laced head. Nose rich with fruit and leather. Starts sweet, but quickly brings forth flavors of roasted malt, raisins, plums. Finishes dry and roasty. An exceptional example of style. downender (2538), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 16, 2007 Bottle. dark brown with a moderate white head. Dryish dark fruit aroma with some toffee sweetness. Very sweet flavour with a dryish finish. Like the Andechser doppelbock, this was too sweet and clinical for me. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Nov 7, 2007 50cl bottle at Kalmar Nation. Dark deep red color with a minimal tan head. Aroma is sweet bread, toffee, brown sugar, and raisins. Very sweet, malt domination, caramelized sugars and almost no hops, with a thick and slightly sticky body with softer carbonation. It’s a tasty beer, but the sweetness and thickness become somewhat cloying by the end. RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 5, 2007 Aroma is a sweet roasted malt scent. Color is deep dark amber with good carbonation and a loose thin head. Taste is crisp and roasted. Starting with a medium body it goes down with crisp feel. Finish comes in with creamy caramel taste that is followed by roasted flavor and a very mild bitterness. You can taste the alcohol a bit and there is a slight European taste that I feel is present in most imports. Overall its a very taste brew and a very good Doppelbock. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 27, 2007 pours dark mahogany that looks deep blood red when held to the light. The head is a super dense and sudsy tan / orange color. The aroma has thick bready toffee, soda shop malt, caramel and dates. Medium / full body with underscored prickly carbonation. The flavor starts with malt that is dark and toasted (far from roasted) with caramel, berries and anise. The finish is a bit spicier with some medicinal qualities. The aroma on this was great and the taste was just fair.
