| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2007 A bottle from last year’s release to the LCBO; aroma is woody and heavy with some coffee-ish hints, definitely carrying the sweetness of the malt. The appearance, poured into stem glass, was an opaque brown-black with a decent creamy head. Flavour-wise, the alcohol is well hidden. Instead, one is taken with hints of licorice, apple, and coffee. It’s a good doppelbock, for sure. FrankJohansen (3367), Århus-Randers Crew, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2007 500 ml bottle. Deep ruby red clear colour. Medium-sized beige fine-laced head with some larger bubbles. Strong distinct rich malty aroma. Toffee and raspberry notes. Hints of chocolate and raisins. Prickly sensation on the tongue. Licorice flavours balanced by smooth hop bitterness and ammonia. Very rich and smooth. Full-bodied, but far from cloying in any way. The soft hop bitterness hides much of the malty sweetness. Very drinkable. A delicious beer. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Those Germans know their beer! This doppelbock is like a scaled down version of my favorite, Ayinger. The aroma is a little weak for a doppelbock. The taste is all fruits (pear and apricot). The molasses and malt aftertaste are present but don’t come through enough to dethrone the king. All in all a very tasty beer. kramer (2448), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2007 500 ml bottle, Stateline Liquors. Pours a clear dark mahogany brown under a firm foamy light brown head that left some nice lacing as it receeded. Nose is heavy thick malt with some light fruity banana notes. Light toffee, alcohol, and vanilla. Flavor is slightly sweet and a little grainy with some light coffee, banana, alcohol, roast, and maple syrup. Mouthfeel is full bodied and pretty creamy in texture up front fading to a slightly sweet and cloying finish. Overall, this was a fine Doppelbock. I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet and very little alcohol apparency.
