Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock

Brown bottle, 500 ml, best before: 01.09.05, purcahsed on December 11 2004; eye: deep brown with burgundy reflections, espresso head that goes away rapidly but leave a ring around the glass, good effervescence; nose: roasted malt, molasses, caramel, lactic; mouth: in that order, hops, caramel, chocolat, roasted malt, finale of good length where the light roasted malt gives way to its lactic side which becomes more and more dominant, lightly sweet, moderately bitter, full body, creamy and the oily texture, good carbonation; overall: good but its lactic side becomes more and more dominant as the beer warms FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, meilleure avant 01.09.05, acheté le 11 décembre 2004; oeil : brune très foncée avec des reflets bourgogne, mousse espresso qui tombe rapidement mais laisse un anneau autour du verre, bonne effervescence; nez : torréfaction, mélasse, caramel, lactique; bouche : dans ce ordre, houblon, caramel, chocolat, malt rôti, finale de bonne durée où la torréfaction légère cède le pas à son côté lactique qui devient de plus en plus dominant, légèrement sucrée, moyennement amère, corsée, texture crémeuse puis huileuse, bonne carbonatation; enr ésumé : bonne mais le côté lactique domine lorsque la bière réchauffe

Bottle. Very dark brown body under a thin white head. Big aroma - strong raisin, toffee, tootsie roll, and berry. Similar dark raisin fruitiness in the flavor. Prune, raisin and chocolate cookie up front with some light dandelion hopping in back. Slightly thick mouthfeel w/ low carbonation. I really like this doppelbock’s fruitiness.

Dyb brun øl med en maltet og sødlig duft. Smagen er karamel/malt med let brændthed uden at være for tung. Kulsyreniveau er perfekt. En af de bedre dobbeltbocks, da den ikke er så stærk

Dark brown with a touch of red in the light. Light brown head fades every so slowly. Malty aroma, raisin, plumb, pear, caramel. Flavor starts off smooth on tip of tounge and quickly fades into bitterness on the sides. Tis indeed a full-bodied, dark strong beer. Sticky, heavy mouthfeel. Aftertaste lingers a while. This isn’t my favorite beer style but I must admit its a good one.

500ml Bottle: Sweet mother this surprised me, it’s amazing. Pours a deep brown with red hues around the edges, with a taupe head that sadly disappeared too quickly. Aroma of molasses and brown sugar with roasted malts, perfection. Flavour put a smile on my face immediately, an instant classic. Caramel sweetness offset with roasted malts and chocolate, it’s the perfect blend for a bock. Beautiful aftertaste. I can’t praise this one enough, you need to try it.

This is a wonderful doppelbock, that really shows off the fact that these do not have to be sickenly sweet in style. This has a nice rich, and medium bodied, flavor that is somewhat dry on the palate. Granted it is bittersweet, but not sweet to the point of irritation. Caramel maltiness, with an even amount of roastiness, somewhat earthy, but very clean, with a lingering finish of black tea and cooked grains.

Bottle. Pours chestnut brown with a beige head. Sweet, earthy aroma with caramel and chocolate notes as well as some dark fruit. Sweet roasted (or even burnt) caramel flavours with nuts and raisins. Medium-bodied (expected a fuller body for all this taste), overall nice mouthfeel.

An old favorite of mine, having one now, time to rate! Pours a nice dark ruby/brown,with a large fluffy head that’s gone quickly, sweet but not sticky, clean aftertaste, easy drinking. Caramel, earthy, Sweet, but subdued. Great beer,Great drinker!
