European bottle courtesy of Papsoe. Pours a dark ruby red with a nice slightly off-white head. Aroma is very sweet, like fruitcake (rich grains, dried fruit, some alcohol). Taste is more balanced than I would have thought from the aroma, with some hoppy bitterness. To be sure, it’s still extremely malty. Not in the same thick way as an imperial stout, but quite sweet. At the end of the day, it’s a nice beer, but a little sweet and one dimensional for me.

First time I had seen this in Salem. 1pt.9oz bottle. Very nice looking beer mahogany with hints of garnet round the edges, lovelly looking thick creamy tan head. Aroma is rather subdued with the malts giving a breakfast cereal like smell..not unpleasant, but unusual indeed. Taste is very malty and creamy ,hints of semi-dark chocolate in the after taste. But its mostly luxuriant creamy maltiness..I like it. Very nice on the palate a very full and pleasing mouthfeel. Not the best Doppelbock I have had but probably the smoothest and most drinkable in quantity( within reason).

500ml bottle while watching the match between Tunisia and Spain on TV. Pours a deep tan colour topped by a strong off-white, almost brownish, head slowly diminishing. Lots of bubbles. Robust and sweet malty aroma. Medium bodied. Dark malty flavour with fine notes of cocoa and chocolate, and with a welcoming bitter end. I will soon visit Vinmonopolet in Norway to buy a few more bottles.

Poured a dark brown / mahoganey color with a small initial head that didn’t last long and provided only minimal lacing. The aroma was really malty rich, some earthy and breadiness to it, definite detection of alcohol. The flavor was almost disgustingly malty rich, somewhat sweet, but balanced by a choice of a grassy hop (my least favorite touch on a beer: grassiness). Chocolate and caramel malts form the base with alcohol detectable in the flavor too. Lots of malt, thick mouthfeel and flat. Not my ideal doppelbock, but not terrible. Number 3 within style when I rated it, wow.

500 ml bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a diminishing amber head. Aromas of prunes, dark malt, a bit of molasses and a hint of honey. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark bread, a hint of dark fruit and honey with a smooth dry finish. The nose is much better than the flavor which is pretty one dimensional.

A very beautiful mahogany colour with good brownish head that stays for a while. Aroma contains berries, nuts and chocolate. Flavours veer more towards a sweet caramelly feel with some citric notes and a limited hoppyness.
