JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Apr 19, 2006 500 ml bottle. Dark brown beer with a thin white head. Sweet toasted malt aroma, light nuttiness and more sweet, dark malts. Flavour is sweet and chocolatey, with nuttiness and strong toasty flavour being the most apparent. Light noble hops help dry out the sweetness. Well balanced, warming and refreshing at the same time. Lingering toast and cocoa in the finish with a hint of noble hop flavour. Tasty brew. Mads Langtved (2246), Copenhagen K, Denmark Apr 15, 2006 bottled. Quite dark with brown head. Flavour is quite fulbodied and strong. Some notes of caramel and roasted malts. Finish is slightly sweet. A very pleasant and somewhat heavy brew. Good balance. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2006 Bottle (500ml). Poured bright clear deep reddish amber with a huge foamy bubbly rocky tan lasting head. Roasty, nutty malty aroma, sweet and grainy, a bit of grape skin. Very light, pleasing flavour of roast malt, grain, vague plum or grape - smooth grainy finish, can’t taste the alcohol - nutty and easy to drink. Mouthfeel is very soft, fairly flat - nice, but not a 4 by my reckoning. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 13, 2006 Reddish brown color with a fluffy white head. Strong malty sweet aroma with slight hints of plum. Sweet but not syrupy. Actually sort of thin with lots of apple juice type notes. Not a bad beer by any stretch but the high average rating surprises me some. manuchampions (95), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 11, 2006 A contradictory beer. On opening it has much in common with a cola; fizzy hiss when uncapped, pours with a thin, fizzy head that dissappears almost instantly. Copper brown cola-like color. Complex malty nose that gets more interesting when tasted. The flavor suprised me; lightly roasted, malty, very enjoyable. Looks one way, tastes another. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Apr 10, 2006 50 cl. bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Dark brown colour with a small head. Sweet and malty aroma with hints of alcohol. Nice smooth flavour of malt, sweetness and hints of roastedness too. Very enjoyable. jonasgaarde (5), Denmark does not count Apr 9, 2006 Very malty with a slight hint of smoke and lickorice. Intense dark colour and very little head. Very easy to drink, despite the thick, concentrated flavor and high alcohol. A truly wonderful experience! TerryR (382), Oswego, Illinois, USA Apr 6, 2006 Very deep mahogany color with a small off white head. Sweet malt/molasses aroma. Starts with more sweet molasses flavor. Dark fruits and then roasted chocolate flavors. Slight bitter chocolate finish. Great beer from an historic brewery.
