heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jan 4, 2006 Thanks a lot for breaking this one out, csbosox. I believe he got this via Yogi Beera. The body was dark brown and amber with a khaki head. The aroma was honey with green grapes, pears and caramel. The taste was smooth and leathery with some dry oatmeal and some almonds. I imagine this is even better when fresh. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Dec 7, 2005 Wow, pouring this beer is like smelling a bakery. Huge aroma. Awesome dark deep brown color, and delicious malty flavor. Unfrigginbelievable awesome beer. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Dec 4, 2005 (500 ml bottle from http://hitimewine.com, marked "08.01.02 L") Body is cola-colored, head is light tan. Nose is prunes, raisins, brown sugar, malt. Some lacing. Mouthfeel smooth, a little dry. Flavor: seems fairly bitter at first, then brown sugar sweetness starts to kick in about halfway into bottle. Not quite as wonderfully complex as some of the other doppels I’ve had IMHO, but still certainly very good. Alcohol very well hidden also. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 23, 2005 Bottle in Florida. Pours a dark brown color with a small creamy off-white head that diminished slowly. Good roasted malt and molasses aroma. Medium body with a creamy texture. Heavy sweet roasted flavor and smooth finish of average duration. Very good brew. DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Nov 18, 2005 Dark chestnut brown, tan head, lacy. Huge aromas of molasses, bitter chocolate. Palate is rich rich malt, slightly nutty, slightly smoky. Quite a creamy mouthfeel. Fantastic! BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 13, 2005 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium frothy tan head that stays for a short while and leaves creamy spotty lacing. Dark chocolate and cocoa, dark roasted caramel malt (cookie) and yeast (sweat, barn) aromas. Dark semi-sweet caramel and chocolate malt, nutty medium roasted malt flavor with a touch of hops. Medium bodied and creamy to fizzy, lightly dry palate. pivnizub (4947), Bochum, Porúří, Germany Nov 5, 2005 Bottle Dark amber coloured with reddish tints, thin but long lasting beige head; complex aroma: molasses (or liquorice ?) and roasted malts, dried fruit, a bit vinous, too; slightly sweetish flavour, becoming dryer towards the bitter (chocolatey)-malty finish; creamy mouthfeel, quite full bodied :-), but avoids becoming really sweet. Well quaffable, but too much molasses............... danfosha (36), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 31, 2005 Good size, lasting creamy light brown head, not a lot of lacing. Clear, dark brown color. Aroma is of molasses, roasted grain, mild hints of chocolate . Very light hops, moderately sweet, not much acid, well balanced. A short finish, kind of watery. Flavor dissipates rapidly - a beer to be swallowed, not savored. Medium full bodied, creamy texture, with fizzy carbonation. Goes well with a dark bread. Got this from the monastery.
