Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland May 10, 2009 0.5 l bottle from Alko. Mahagony color with creamy head. Malty, toffeish and nutty aroma with licorice. Sweetish malty flavor with dark bread, toffee, nuts, licorice. Full bodied. Rich malty and bready bock. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 27, 2009 Will this be taken as blasphemy? For some it may..but i would say the last 10 German dopples i’ve had have been weak and some have been a little metallicy- but this one was super tastey. Dark brownish black but somewhat translucent colour with a big tan head. Biscuity malt notes, caramel, toast and a hint of nutmeg flavour. Taste reminds me of a charleston chew. Aroma is malty and rich and very pleasent. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Apr 21, 2009 500 ml. bottle. Pours a thick short lived mocha head, with slight lacing over a clear dark reddish brown (SRM 20) body....nose of roasted and caramel malts with toffee and molasses dominating, some raisin and cherry too....tastes of medium sweet malts with toffee, bit of molasses, dried fruits, including cherry withslight bitterinig towards the finish...mouth feel is thick and creamy, a lovely luscious brew. liinis (695), Helsinki, Finland Apr 16, 2009 I didnt know it was so damn good when I bought it. Rich and strong flavor just as I like it. good body and mouthfeel. great beer. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 10, 2009 [1900-20081213] 500mL bottle. Light banana coffee roast and some spices in the aroma. Clear, dark red mahogany body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Sweet raisin malt flavour, particular emphasis on the sweet. Medium-full body. Nice to try finally (after a bit of a muddle, oops), drinkable, but overly sugary. Muggus69 (500), Sydney, Australia Apr 4, 2009 500ml bottle. BB 30 06 09.
Deep bronze body with ruby highlights. Thick tan head sits atop, leaving a spiderweb of lace in its wake.
Oxidised malt aroma, but not in a bad way. Toffee, mollasses, burnt nuts, cocoa, dried fruit, spice, over-cooked meat...if that makes sense!
Richly textured body, creamy carbonation, bit of dryness toward the finish yet a sweetness still remains.
The beer really opens up especially on the body. Plenty of big rich malt characters of toffee, chocolate and nut, yet nothing remotely roasty. Going further are complex notes of raisin, sultana, prune, smoke, wood, earthy spice, bread, subtle herbs. Finishes dry, with a slightly odd bitterness and lingering note of cocoa.
Yum, I do love a good bock. Such a simple and easy drinking beer on the surface, yet complexities seem to form on their own accord amongst the rich malt and alcohol. Lovely. pfriesen (34), Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada Apr 2, 2009 Pours ruby-brown clear with light tan head
Sugary aroma, flavours of light chocolate and molasses. Goody rounded body, goes down easy cgreb (173), Marburg, Germany Mar 31, 2009 bottle - (asheft) dark brown beer with a thick white head and a sweet toffe aroma. The flavour is sweet and malty, caramel-like.
