daknole (2803), Plantation, Florida, USA Feb 9, 2009 Bottle at Funky Buddha/Case and Keg tasting. Nice dark brown/reddish pour wtih a good sized off white head. Aroma is loaded with sweet malt, nuts, bread, and dark fruit. Flavor follows the nose as you dive into dried fruits, sweet malt, honey and nuts. Really nice. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Feb 8, 2009 20090208 500ml bottle from State Line. Deep brown color with crazy, thick, dense, beige head of tight foam. Immediate sheeting lace. Waiting and waiting for the head to dissipate so that I can taste the stuff, I enjoy deep nutty aromas, roasted hazelnut, milk duds, creme brulee, light coffee, and mild smokiness. Finally. Creamy texture is coating and lightly bitter to finish. Flavors are rich, lush, nutty, malty, and lightly sweet. More light coffee, then caramel, nutella, and molasses cookie. Ah, this is a nice beer. Rodders (114), Norwich, Norfolk, England Feb 1, 2009 (500ml bottle from Fat Cat Norwich) Dark red colour with an off white head that disappears quickly. Smells of rich plum, sweet fruit and malt. Feels warm and thick in the mouth. Tastes of dark berries and fruits with brown sugar and toast overtones. Caramel too, and a tiny hint of chocolate. Very nice, the first doppelbock I’ve had and certainly not the last. Perfect as a winter warmer, the flavours blend beautifully together to create a rich, taste centric malty beer that can only be pleasing. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jan 31, 2009 500ml bottle. The aroma is malty, bready and toasty with dark fruits (figs/dates). The mouthfeel is killer. Malty, bready, toasty flavor with dark fruits and a floral finish. This is a beer for people that appreciate a well done, malt-centric beer. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 28, 2009 bottle - Pours deep amber with a thin tan, fading head. The aroma is rich caramel malt with some dark fruit accents. The dark fruit notes come through nicely in the sweet flavor. It’s medium bodied. There’s just a touch of bitterness in a mostly malt finish that includes some noticeable but gentle alcohol presence. As one might expect, there are definite similarities to their Barock Dunkel, which I drank yesterday, but the doppelbock version is of course bigger and more flavorful, especially in how much better the fruit notes come through. Very tasty. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 25, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a quickly disappearing tan head. Sweet aroma, lots of caramel and bready. Again, sweet caramel dominates the body, bready, tasty. Even with all that sweetness, definitely easy to drink. Top notch. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 25, 2009 Pours like a cola. Transparent reddish brown, with a fizzy head that’s thick, but dissipates fairly quickly. Gets much better from there, though. Brown sugar and dark fruits are predominant in the aroma and the flavor. It’s a bit sweet, but stays dry - very tasty, and very easy to drink.
