Came out a cloudy mahogany with some ruby around the edges. Had a moderate dense tan head. Seems like you could rest a penny on it. Aroma is incredible! Rich caramel, spice, malt, hints of brown sugar and cocoa. Taste is sweet. More caramel and malt blended with milk chocolate and spice - cinnamon? - with splashes of brown sugar. Very rich and filling. Needless to say its a full mouthfeel. A well rounded beer. The finish is more malt with cocoa and caramel. A sweet beer but it’s not overboard. Great beer! The aroma is fruit mixed with weak coffee, and the flavour reminds me strongly of blackcurrents mixed with a bitter edge. A different beer to most, and not one of my favourites. Dark, ruby red to brown pour with a creamy, mocha colored head. Molasses, chocolate, a hint of wine and olive oil in the aroma, Excellent malty flavor with some chocolate, molasses, a hint of spiciness - the sweet kind - like Christmas spices. Very delectable dopplebock. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. KnutAlbert (3127), Oslo, Norway

Fine sweetness, with caramel and malt dominating. No strong hoppy presence, but it turns out well balanced anyway. ogivlado (3070), Zagreb, Croatia

Reddish/brown coloured, medium sized tan head, malty nose with hint of chocolate. Sweet malty, chocolate and caramel with notes of grain and minimal dark fruits. Nutty finish. To be honest expected (much) better beer. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2004 Clear dark brown color, small lasting brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, coffee and vegetable (laurel perhaps indeed). Taste is complex of roasted malts, licorice. Very nice doppelbock indeed! Jukkabro (3023), Tampere, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2004 Almost black colored, big nice beige lasting head. Sweet caramel and chocolate aroma with roasted malts, excellent one! Strong roasted malt and caramel flavor ends with dry hopping. Chocolate lasts long with nicely dry mouthfeel. Body is surprisingly bland, after aroma and having ABV 7.2%. High alcohol content does not show in aroma or flavor, well hidden. Alcohol comes up slightly in aftertaste, gives you warm mouthfeel. With more body rating would have started with 4, still very good and complex doppelbock.. presario (2983), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
