Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of raisins and prunes. Malty, roasted taste with dried fruit, raisins and dark bread. Well balanced and smooth finish with a mild, spicy bitterness. More than medium body, balanced sweetness. Lovely balance with a solid malt character makes this a very enjoyable, slow sipping beer. Aurelius (2648), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2007 Updated: Oct 30, 2007Bottled: Very deep brown in color with ruby tints, topped by a generous and well retained creamy tan head. Very malty aroma, with a hint of sweetness. Perfectly roasty notes, peat, brown sugar and chocolate. The mouth feel is perfectly creamy and has an amazing texture, a perfect palate. Amazing flavor of roasted malt, dark & subtle sweetness, chewy nuttiness, rich quality chocolate, hearty bready notes, and a perfectly balancing, roasted, smooth coffeeish dryness in the finish. This is a perfectly crafted beer which is perfectly balanced. If I were to rate strictly by style this would be a five! tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2004 Updated: Apr 23, 2006Bottle. I had heard nothing of this beer, so imagine by surprise when I tried it from the lcbo winter release! It quickly mad up for my grand cru disappointment! Very dark drown pour, almost black. Small tan head. Very strong chocolate and caramel aroma. Taste is full bodied, with slight hops at the end and in the middle all the malty sweetness and dark chocolate flavours you can handle. Lovely. This is a wonderful warming strong malty, grainy beer, a true beer for the season that gets thicker as it warms. I will be buying more of this for sure.
Re-rate. Neat to see what you think of a beer over a year alter, when your palette has changed. This one held up very well, but I think having it on a chilly winter evening (old rating) as to know (decent spring day) makes a difference. I still like it, it is among the best Bocks I have ever had, but I found the body a little thin, probably on style, but not enough to justify my overall rating. It looks good, tastes rich and caramel like, but doesn’t have a ton of aroma. A really really good Bock that I overrated before. original 9-5-9-4-16

Clear, dark red mahogany body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Sweet raisin malt flavour, particular emphasis on the sweet. Medium-full body. Nice to try finally (after a bit of a muddle, oops), drinkable, but overly sugary. Pailhead (2593), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Bottle: Sweet aroma. Caramel, toffee, honey, and fruit. Pours a dark semi-transparent brown with red hilights. Sweet caramel with a slight roasty nuttiness in the finish. There is a metallic taste in the finish that really hurts this beer.
