Mar 28, 2007 Bottle (from Bitter Virtue,, BB Jan 08). Lots of malty flavours toffee and liquorice with a little chocolate and a little toastyness as well. Sweet and a little sticky but not overly heavy in the mouth. Some alcohol is apparent. Despite the interesting flavours this was a bit sweet for me an lacking enough bitterness or fruity acidity to help balance it.

Jul 8, 2007 Bottle. Deep clear copper, brief and fizzy neige head. Wonderful roasted toffeish malt aroma, with notes of dried fruits, and some earthy and woody notes. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Well balanced with a sweet start and a long dry finish.

Jan 11, 2003 It took a while - to be honest an one hour girlie phonetalk with a friend - meanwhile the beer sitting next to me, until I realized how much I like it. Nice molasses like, malt and nutmeg nose. Hazelnutbrown head on a wonderful mahagony body. Sweet, but not to sweet. Nice Coffee and chocolate tones.

Aug 30, 2008 500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, dated 11.01.02. Reddish brown pour with a 2-finger head. Aroma of brown sugar, banana and grain. Taste is wheat, brown sugar, raisins, banana, caramel. Full bodied but very light texture. Very nice.

Oct 2, 2002 Dark brown body, ends ups being almost black but is really like Okeefenokee swamp water but darker. Light chocolate milk head. Deep malt aroma - chocolate - and slight citric quality. Smooth malt flavors. The taste is earthy and gritty, but the mouthfeel is almost creamy and really smooth. This last part confused me: I picked up some esters in the flavor and by the end of the beer I was convinced I was drinking a weissbock.

Nov 21, 2002 dark, so thick and rich, some roastedness too that helps round it out. sweet malt finish that sometimes stays a little too long. truly excellent. (and you can’t beat the $3 price for a world class beer)
