Well this is the 180 degree opposite of those cheap pale yellow american 40’s found in the bar. Slight overripe fermented grape or crushed raison aroma in wood.. Pours dark but not opaque in my happy steeler stein. Leathery intial hit on the taste buds. Nice palate but could use slightly more carbonation. Licorice finish with a little bitterness but not offensive. Has all the complexities of bitter stouts without the bitterness. That dude on the front looks like he drank a few of the 1 pint 9 oz bottles ! SHIG (2043), Aviano, Italy

This beer had a vegetal element but one that reminded me more of a tasty V8 that I found to be rather pleasant. Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a large brown head. The aroma was sour and tangy molasses with a v8 element underneath. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy. The flavor was rich and savor dark malts and molasses. There is again a V8 undertone. The finish is marvelously long. Very nice! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2002 Malty, lightly sweet chocolate, caramel and spice cake aroma. Dark brownish-red in color, appreciable head and effervescence. Flavor possesses a good deal of malt sweetness, with some light smokiness, toffee and raisin. Indulgent, almost creamy mouthfeel, yet the body is not heavy, and it has a very reasonable degree of drinkability. Smooth, malty finish and aftertaste. Good stuff, cheers herb. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Nice fruity caramel malt aroma, with some choc malt and spice present too. Lovely smooth velvet medium mouthfeel. Big sweet toffee and caramel taste, with a balanced bitter finish. Sweet toffee aftertaste, with a hint of raisins? plums? there too. ABV masked perfectly. Very tasty stuff. DaSilky1 (2020), San Diego, California, USA
