ve had lately. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

For some it may..but i would say the last 10 German dopples i’ve had have been weak and some have been a little metallicy- but this one was super tastey. Dark brownish black but somewhat translucent colour with a big tan head. Biscuity malt notes, caramel, toast and a hint of nutmeg flavour. Taste reminds me of a charleston chew. Aroma is malty and rich and very pleasent. BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2002 Huge head in this dark doppelbock that appears amber-tinged under light. Wonderful candy aroma with a full, rich, sweet body. A dessert beer highly desirable during winter weather. The rich roasted malt candy sweetness is followed by a slight dry, burnt finish. I am not usually an aficionado of sweet beers, but this offering is superlatively crafted. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA

Rich aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, a touch of chocolate. Flavor is full with lots of roasted malt, caramel, some hops, and chocolate. A bit of sweetness initially followed up by a moderately dry finish. Good. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Hell yes. Nice, thick, dark doppelbock. Humongous tan mass of a head. Aroma is of caramel and chocolate malts, apple cinnamon muffins. Sweet. Flavor is complex - rich and creamy. Chocolate and caramel play a leading role. Toasted pecans. Nutty, with a cedar-like aspect. Persistent head and medium viscosity make it a palate’s paradise. Malts, glorious malts. A delicious doppelbock done right. This might be the epitome of German doppelbocks. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

Now that that’s out of the way... At $2.40 for a .5L bottle this was a steal. Deep mahogony body with a large head. Aroma is dark malts with notes of caramel, chocolate, toffee. Dangerously drinkable, very tasty. Quite sweet. Almost no hops. sebletitje (1925), Tampa, Florida, USA
