A little too sweet for my tastebuds. Alcohol wasn’t present on the tongue and I’m left with a murky sweet taste several minutes later. iowaherkeye (1876), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2007 16.9oz bottle marked 06.02.09, assuming this is best by February 6th, ’09. Pours a clear fairly dark reddish brown and a 1/2 finger beige head. Aroma of toffee, toasted grains, light buttery malts, sugary raisins, and something that may be hazelnuts. Fairly sweet. The flavor even adds a bit of roast and bitterness to help offset what seems to be an overly sweet style. Toasted grain and toffee seem to be the dominant flavors. No alcohol presence at all. Lightly dry finish. I would not call this full bodied--it’s actually kind of light for a doppel--medium is probably closer. Moderate creamy carbonation that prickles the tongue just a little bit. Pretty darn good overall. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA

Brown sugarry sweetness and coffee on the palate, creamy and smooth with a lingering licorice aftertaste. DrnkMcDermott (1862), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 26, 2004 Bottled Wow! I couldn't believe I'd found one of the great beers of the world, but there it is, and without an "-ator" name on it! A very complex and captivating beastie. Looks almost like a stout, though I can see the brownish head from the underside. Big aroma of molasses, malt, and... blueberries, it seems, or maybe canteloupe. Taste has an up front bitterness that calls a stout to mind again, but then is replaced by roasted malt sweetness, lager yeast, woodiness and another fruit overtone. Finally, there's a smooth alcohol finish like a scotch and soda. Just incredibly pleasing all the way through. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Large, mostly diminishing light tan head with an alluring aroma of deep fruitiness (raisins, plums, overipen fruits), chocolate and coffee grounds. Chewy malty flavor with hints of fruits, caramel and dark malts. A lovely beer. LinusStick (1852), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Those Germans know their beer! This doppelbock is like a scaled down version of my favorite, Ayinger. The aroma is a little weak for a doppelbock. The taste is all fruits (pear and apricot). The molasses and malt aftertaste are present but don’t come through enough to dethrone the king. All in all a very tasty beer. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Pour is a dark black with a tan head. Aroma is nice with a ton of sweet malt and molasses. Flavor is also on the plus side with lots of toffee and nuts. Then finishes with a very nice mellow raisin flavor. If there was such a thing as raisin juice i would compare it to this. A very tasty dopple and one to seak out.
