Caramel and some chocolate, pleasant bitterness. Very well balanced beer, but a bit too thin to get better score. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 27, 2006 Pours clear mahogany with a thin but dense white head. Light molassis, metallic aroma, still cold maybe. Taste begins with light sweetness and a mineral, earthy bitterness. Molassis for sure, really nice hops compliment this with a earthy, floral bitterness. Finish is smooth, oily, with hints of cinnamon and toasted malt. Body is straightforward, lightly viscous, slight butteriness. Quite well balanced for what it is, and much less metallic and offensve that most other bottled German offerings that make it over here. daniele (1756), Italy

Big aroma - strong raisin, toffee, tootsie roll, and berry. Similar dark raisin fruitiness in the flavor. Prune, raisin and chocolate cookie up front with some light dandelion hopping in back. Slightly thick mouthfeel w/ low carbonation. I really like this doppelbock’s fruitiness. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 31, 2001 I spent a while with this one as it seemed to ask for it. Excellent in the glass -- remarkable clarity for such rich flavors and a big carmel head. Candy, carmel and molasses in the aroma with more interesting straw and fruit aromas as it thins. A dampened rock in the gut feeling from its thickness. Some dust aromas. Not as syrupy or candied as some similar brews such as Karmeleit. I’m not big on these brews but this is delicious. Very malty aroma but thankfully the flavour is a smooth mellow chocolate taste with a nice long finish. douglas88 (1685), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours a ruby body with a medium beige head. The aroma is full of sweet fruits, malt, and some candy. The taste exhibits many qualities of a good bock; caramel and molasses sweetness, dark fruity flavors, a touch of alcohol warmth, a smooth easy mouthfeel, and a light bitter finish. Very good. Sweet, but not too sweet.
