Dark brown body with average carbonation, rusty glints and thick beige frothy head. Wonderful and complex malty/hoppy aroma with plummy, dark cherry, roasty and flowery notes. Rich roasted malt taste that carries woody hints, and ends with a long and robust bitter/roasty finish. I choose it for my 750th rating and did not regret it! 17thfloor (1504), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2009 500ml bottle thanks to and shared with funkybrewster. Pours a very dark, almost clear, red with a thick creamy light tan froth with some lacing, settlings into lovely super fine bubbles. Aroma is super fruity, like a fruit-snack/gummy-bear, rich grainy malts, lots of malt flour, very light chocolate, touch of grass 6.5. Mmmmm the flavor is wunderbar, endlessly malty, loads of grainy malt flour, some faint bitterness that adds dimension, bitter chocolate and malt flour, like drinking rye bread, fantastic 8.5. Flavor brings huge nostalgia of when my grandfather used to make me chocolate malts as a kid. It isn’t rich but perfectly sweet. Long lingering chalky bitterness. No hint of any alcohol, well just enough to warm the flavor. The body is near perfect for flavor and style, avoids being syrupy or sticky like so many sugar doppelbock messes, smooth ubiquitous super fine carbonation 4.5. Love it. Very malty aroma but thankfully the flavour is a smooth mellow chocolate taste with a nice long finish. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 19, 2005 Like to qualify this 0.5l bottle first by saying that is is evidently old. I have had this before when it was coming into NJ relatively fresh a few years ago (by the cas!). Now I wonder if this is even being imported to the US at all! Anyway, Clear ruby brown, nice tan head. Slightly cardboard sherried malt aroma. Mig lucious malts present here, and the mouth feel is second to none. I noted protein rings on tho bottom of the bottle, so this brew may be 2 years old or more. Still excellent, but fresh is always best for this brew. redlight (1495), Winter Park, Florida, USA

Huge roasty aroma, caramalized sugars, and molasses, i was right on with this 2 years ago. Still pours brown/dark amber. Smooth malty flavor, roasty, i definitely appreciate this beer a lot more now. Very smooth, doesn’t seem to linger. Strykzone (1494), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2006 This is such a good beer! Dark brown with some red tones to it, a bit like cola. Delightful aroma with lots of sweet malts. Some raisen is evident and maybe a hint of cherries deep down. Flavor is also of malt and is rich and delicious. Sorry I only bought a single pint. It was thoroughly enjoyed. TheEpeeist (1477), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2006 16.9 oz bottle. Clear blood brown puffs up a billowy tan head. Leaves an island without lace. Soapy burnt orange juice and leather. Fresh plums melt into dark chocolate. Gently drying with lingering notes of coffee, lime, apple and allspice. Carb is not really noticeable but still cuts through the medium body to produce a wonderful drinker. Reminds me of a good cigar. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2004 6.9% bottle. Incredibly dark ruby color, darker tan head. Earthy amd sweet malts dominate, some what nutty, a little roast, some chocolate, and some fruit pokes around. Medium to fuller bodied, nice and mellow, but still coats the mouth. A very nice doppelbock, certainly a treat for malt lovers.
